2 8 TH ANNUAL CARDIOLOGY UPDATE: THE HEART OF NEW DEVELOPMENTS CONFERENCE OVERVIEW This educational activity is designed to present state-of-the-art knowledge in cardiovascular disease. An overview of current and new modalities of treatment of hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, heart failure, arrhythmia, and valvular heart disease will be discussed. Additionally, this program will help test cardiovascular knowledge. Lastly, attendees will learn about the new MACRA legislation, the National Cardiovascular Data Registry, and what it tells us about cardiovascular care. DESIGNED FOR This course is intended for practicing cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, cardiovascular trainees, family practice/internal medicine physicians, hospitalists, physician assistants, cardiology technologists, nurse practitioners and registered nurses with a cardiovascular interest. COURSE OBJECTIVES Review the current MACRA legislation and how it will impact practice Describe quality payment programs including the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) Review the current use of the Appropriate Use Criteria program Explain how the application of big data to real life practices and clinical care Review the newly evolving medical treatment strategies in heart failure management Review the current issues in ischemic heart disease and dual antiplatelet therapy Discuss the controversies surrounding bioresorbable stents Review the current management of lipid disorders Discuss cardiovascular risk and longevity Review the current management of valvular heart disease Learn about transcatheter mitral valve repair and replacement Discuss the imaging assessment needed prior to valvular interventions Learn about new diabetes treatment and the cardiovascular implications of this treatment Discuss new developments in understanding of stress cardiomyopathy Learn about left atrial appendage closure for stroke prevention Review the new atrial fibrillation guidelines and the use of novel anticoagulants Discuss the connection between cognitive and cardiac health Discuss lifestyle changes for a healthy cardiovascular system
