2 Conference Overview This conference is designed to address practical issues and clinical challenges that oncology nurses face each day. Hoag s 11th Annual Oncology Nurses Conference Embracing Excellence in Oncology Nursing Practice is designed for nurses dedicated to the field of oncology who practice in settings across the continuum of care. During this two day conference, attendees will benefit from an intimate learning environment in which prominent faculty will present the latest in oncology care and provide practical strategies and tools to improve nursing practice and patient outcomes. CEU Accreditation & Credit Designation This conference has been approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, with provider number 00146, for a total of fourteen (14.0) contact hours (7.0 for Friday, 7.0 for Saturday), of continuing education credit for R.N.s. Who Should Attend This conference is intended for oncology and radiation oncology nurses. Pharmacists as well as others with an interest in recent advances in the treatment of solid tumors and hematologic malignancies are welcome to attend. Students enrolled in a registered nursing program who have interest in oncology are invited to attend this program. 3 Educational Objectives Summarize how to collaborate with patients, their families, and other clinical team members to reach solutions and solve problems from a cancer survivor s point of view. Identify current treatments available for ovarian cancer and their associated challenges. Describe how to implement Sepsis advisory triggers in the inpatient oncology unit. Describe the current state of breast cancer treatment including new therapies and gold standard treatments. Summarize the current state and treatment of malignant brain tumors. Discuss EGFR mutant and ALK rearranged lung cancer and discuss the history of targeted therapies in these cancers and the new generations of therapies currently treating drug resistance. Examine some of the elements and dynamics of the patient s and/or family s spiritual and relational needs during a very poignant moment in life. Identify the role of the oncology nurse navigator across the continuum of care. Identify new drugs that have been FDA approved for cancer treatment in Review nursing management challenges of caring for lymphoma patients receiving new and novel therapies. Describe current updates in breast cancer surgery. Identify changes in cognition and associated risks in patients receiving chemotherapy treatment. List examples of when RXT is indicated in the treatment of cancer and describe the different types of RXT used. Describe the impact of cancer genomics on early cancer diagnosis, management and treatment and the opportunities gained, and the changing landscape resulting from the study of hereditary tumors. Identify how to prepare your patient for a interventional radiology visit. Discuss the most current innovations in Interventional Radiology used to treat cancerous tumors while minimizing possible injury to other organs resulting in prolonged quality survival for patients with cancer.
