1 2014 NDCORE ALCOHOL AND DRUG SURVEY Summary The NDCORE Survey was developed in conjunction with the Core Institute of Southern Illinois University to identify high-risk drinking predictors for ND college students and used to develop evidence-based interventions specific to ND and for each campus. The NDCORE Survey contains several items about alcohol and drugs, including questions specific to ND culture. Included are questions regarding respondent demographics, alcohol and other drug use behaviors, and perceptions of alcohol and other drugs. Thirteen campus-specific questions were also included in s survey. All undergraduate students at had the opportunity to be included in this study through a stratified random sampling procedure, which included a total of 570 students 1. Students were drawn from all ethnic backgrounds, all colleges, and all classes (e.g. freshman, sophomore). The key findings are summarized below 2. The resulting data set is compared with the data sets from previous NDCORE surveys (2001, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012) and with the North Dakota composite data from eleven NDUS institutions 3. It is also compared with the most recent National CORE data set collected from 39,064 students in Overall Findings Demographics 28.8 of students are freshmen, 20.7 are sophomores, 29.5 are juniors, 18.4 are seniors, 1.2 are graduate students, 0.9 are other students 99.3 are full-time students, 0.7 are part-time students 50.4 are male, 42.6 are female, and 7.0 chose not to respond The age range for respondents is 18-38, with an average age of live on-campus 57.4 reported they work full or part-time Alcohol Use The average number of drinks consumed by students per week is The peak blood alcohol content (BAC) for males is.109, for females it is reported having five or more drinks at a sitting at least once over the past two weeks have used alcohol within the past 30 days surveys were misplaced after being sent to the CORE Institute for coding; therefore, the results of this report were taken from 570 of the 858 completed surveys. To ensure a valid sample at 95 confidence interval and 5 margin of error, 375 surveys were needed. 2 All findings except demographic frequencies are weighted by classification to ensure representativeness of the undergraduate population. For all non-demographic analysis, graduate and other students are removed from the population, for a total n of For comparison purposes, data from 2008, 2010, and 2012 were also weighted by classification to ensure representativeness. 1
