1 Worksite Wellness 2018 Seminar Description List Health Education Seminars A wide range of popular health topics created to engage individuals. Available Live/Onsite or via Webinar. Topics subject to change. Maximum Participation: Live/Onsite = 30 / Webinar = 100 Topic List * indicates NEW FOR Weeks to a Healthier You - One Hour Chat Series This seminar focuses on fitness and better eating habits as the basics of good health. Barriers, emotional aspects and methods of self-motivation are also discussed. A variety of printed takeaway materials are given to participants. Week 1: Goal Setting Week 2: Nutrition 101 Week 3: Fitting in Fitness Week 4: Creating a Supportive Environment Week 5: Healthy Hydration Week 6: A Healthy Mind and Body Back in Shape (Back Care) Between 75% and 85% of all people will have some form of back pain. In a 3-month period, about one-fourth of U.S. adults will have at least 1 day of back pain. This seminar will help participants understand the basic structures of the back, symptoms of back pain, when to contact a health professional, and steps to manage back pain. Breast Cancer Awareness Breast cancer is the 2nd most common type of cancer among women and the 2nd most deadly form of cancer in women. With stats like that, it is vital that women are aware of their risk factors and know about early warning signs of breast cancer. This seminar offers an understanding of breast cancer, the path of diagnosis, risk factors and methods of detection. Creating a Work Life Balance Coping with the demands of work and home life is a complex balancing act, with many changing factors. The act of balancing all of our roles can leave us feeling overwhelmed. This seminar will look at individual struggles with the work-life balance and creating ways to reduce the tensions of coping with many different life demands. 2 Diabetes Awareness Diabetes is a disease in which high levels of sugar are present in the blood. There are different types of diabetes and the symptoms, complications and treatments differ from person to person. While there is no cure for diabetes, there are lifestyle changes that help ease the burden of this illness. This seminar will help participants understand the basics of diabetes, the causes of the disease and how to manage symptoms to live more healthfully. Dining Out the Healthy Way This seminar explores how to resist temptation and how to make responsible, healthy choices when dining out. Fighting Office Aches and Pains From stiff necks to sore wrists to throbbing backs, head-to-toe pain can result from sitting for hours in front of a computer. Musculoskeletal disorders are among the most common workplace afflictions. This seminar will focus on understanding the basic function of the musculoskeletal system, risk factors and preventive measures to stay pain-free. Finding Happiness in a Busy World* This seminar will focus on discussing the meaning of happiness and well-being, and look at ways participants can cultivate happiness in their lives. The focus will be on manageable activities which can be completed on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. Fitting in Fitness In today s fast-paced world, it s hard for people to make fitness a part of their day. Finding a balance between work, home and exercise can feel impossible. However, it can be done! This seminar will look at how to make daily changes in your schedule to reap positive fitness and health benefits. Participants will also gain insight into how to build a successful fitness plan that sticks! Healthy Eating on a Budget Those of us looking to eat a healthy diet can easily get sidetracked, finding healthy food expensive and time consuming. While this is far from the case, it can be hard to know where to start. When it comes to healthful eating on a budget, separating fact from fiction and knowing where to find information will help you stay on the right path. This seminar will explore how to eat a healthy, well balanced diet while staying on a budget. 2
3 Healthy Hearts The latest data from the American Heart Association shows that over 80 million Americans (1 in 3) have one or more forms of heart disease (CVD). You can do a lot to lower your risk of heart disease, and it's never too late to start making changes for a healthy heart. This seminar offers basic information about the risk factors and simple life changes needed to maintain a healthy heart for life! Meal Master Planner The mass of information on healthy eating habits can be confusing for many people and difficult to follow. This seminar will delve into ways to not only eat better, but plan healthy meals tailored to a busy lifestyle. NOTE: This offering is divided into two parts. These can be purchased individually or together, however offering/purchasing Part 2 is not recommended without first offering/purchasing Part 1, as Part 2 will build upon and reference lessons learned in Part 1. Part 1: Everyone s lifestyle is different and creating a personal plan is both motivating and efficient. It is essential to become familiar with the different types of food, their benefits and the best way to incorporate them into your daily life. This seminar will discuss planning for healthy eating and how to maintain a healthy attitude in the process. Part 2: Day-to-day food choices have an impact on how we feel and can influence the quality of life that we enjoy. It is to our benefit to give careful consideration when making choices in meal planning. This seminar will address a detailed plan for healthy eating. Men s Health The Center for Disease Control shows on average, men live 6 years less than women. This may be because women are 100% more likely to get check-ups and engage in health prevention behavior. In terms of health and wellness, ignorance is not bliss. This seminar gives information on men s health concerns, health prevention practices and issues specific to men accessing health services. Mind Body Connection This seminar reviews the connection between the mind and body and methods of using this relationship to improve individual health and wellness. Mood and Food Many people struggle with eating habits tied to stress or other emotions. This seminar helps participants define, identify and develop skills to manage emotional eating. 3
4 Nutrition 101 People usually know that to be healthy, you must eat healthy foods. Often we have a basic understanding of what we should be eating, but it is important to fully understand the impact nutrition has on our body. This seminar will bring awareness about important elements of nutrition beyond the USDA s ChooseMyPlate. Nutrition During Pregnancy* This seminar will help review the fundamental elements of nutrition during pregnancy to help future mothers learn about important nutrients, healthy weight gain, and areas where they should practice caution with certain foods, beverages, or ingredients. Preventing Burnout This seminar reviews the concept of burnout and promotes awareness so that participants can take action as soon as signals are evident. Promoting a Healthy Lifestyle A healthy lifestyle means balancing many factors, not merely consuming an apple a day. When this balance is achieved, body, mind and spirit all work in harmony and function at optimal levels. This can be hard because there are many different pieces of a healthy lifestyle. This seminar will review the main factors for balanced health, while looking at what is healthy and unhealthy within your own life to promote positive changes. Skin Cancer Awareness More than 1 million new cases of skin cancer will be diagnosed in the United States this year. Sun exposure is said to be the most important factor in the cause of skin cancers, and about 70 percent of American adults do not use sun-protection measures. This seminar will give information on the types of skin cancer, how to spot skin cancer, and measures to protect your skin. Strategies for Better Sleep* Strategies for Better Sleep provides an opportunity for participants to learn more about the negative consequences of sleep loss, the positive benefits of getting the right amount of sleep and the small steps we can take to create healthier sleep habits. Stress Management High levels of stress are very common in today s fast paced world and can often lead to health problems. Many of these health concerns could be prevented. This seminar gives an overview of the impact of stress and ways to reduce it, as well as tips to live a healthier life. 4
5 Tis the Season to be Stressed This seminar assists participants in recognizing sources of holiday stress and tension and helps minimize these stressors through the development of strategies to promote a joyful holiday season. Nicotine Addiction offered onsite OR via webinar Tobacco use is the leading cause of preventable death in the United States, with about 443,000 deaths, or 1 of every 5 deaths, in the United States each year. This seminar reviews the causes of nicotine dependency, the health effects of nicotine and strategies to develop a successful quit plan. Tobacco Cessation offered onsite only This series offers state-of-the-art methods, assessments, strategies and discussion for preparing to quit as well as support for staying tobacco-free. 4 Week Program: 1.
