Chamber of Commerce Meeting March 8, 2017 Present: Erica Hansen, Janene Hill, Kevin Krull, Simon McKenzie, Connor Peterson, Kim Snavely, Dawn Thompson, and Chamber Director Marcia Davis. Absent: Dena Beck, Natalie Janda, Jeanne Jons, Joelle Knott, Carol Loschen Meeting was called to order at 6:14 p.m. by President Kevin Krull. Janene Hill moved to approve the Secretary and current Treasurer s report as submitted. Erica Hansen seconded, motion approved. Old Business Blue Jeans and BBQ - Erica updated the Board on the progress being made for the event. There are 35 tables sold so far with a few more contacts left to answer. There will be special recognition for businesses that are retiring or have been in business for 40+ years. Suggestions of a sculpture by Sally and pictures of events were presented for awards. Minden Hockey Night Marcia updated the Board on the Minden Storm Hockey night. There were quite a few Minden residents in attendance. A booth was set up with a raffle drawing for four tickets to Blue Jeans and BBQ that was won by a resident outside of Kearney County. There were also eight mugs sold. All Class Reunion Dena Beck was absent to discuss the All Class Reunion. Dena emailed Marcia an idea for a brochure to hand out to attendees. This brochure would have local business sponsors and coupons to be used in Minden. Spots would be limited on the brochure. Dena is continuing to work on the committee and will present more information at the next meeting. 2017 Partnership Marcia presented an update on partnerships that have come in for 2017. Sixty-three members have paid for a total of $16,850. A question was asked how this number compared to last year at this time, but those numbers are not available. A question was asked on the Distributor membership and how prices differ for out of town members. A discount was discussed for food vendors and out of town distributors. This will be discussed more next meeting. New Business Welcome Bags Kevin discussed the current welcome bags that are available at the City of Minden office for when a newcomer turns on utilities. Questions arose on how individuals get the bag if they call to turn on utilities. One way would be for an employer to give the welcome bag, a card to pick up at the Chamber office, and a personal greeting from a Chamber member. It was also discussed how to keep the bag updated and how to promote businesses to participate. A drive was suggested to get businesses to provide information, coupons, and promotional material Chamber Bucks Kevin discussed a plan to keep dollars in the community. Connor came up with having the City give Chamber Bucks instead of a credit on a utility bill after a year. Kevin has been in contact with the City of Minden to discuss the feasibility of this. Mayor Ted Griess told Kevin that if this was not possible that giving some Chamber Bucks to new residents might be beneficial.
