Palliative and End of Life Care Education Programme Education Training Dates 2018/19 Palliative Care Tier Guide Tier 1 Introduction to Palliative Care Half day workshop particularly suitable for non-clinicians and volunteers and volunteers or clinicians with limited palliative care knowledge Training Options: 1. Introduction to Palliative Care 2. Introduction to Rehabilitation & Self-Management in Life-limiting Illness Tier 2 ABC End of Life Care Education Two Day Introduction to palliative/ End of Life Care Taught programme of approximately 15 hours run over 2 days as an introduction to the foundations of palliative care. Particularly suitable for domiciliary agency and care home staff but might be appropriate for others. Tier 3 Palliative Care Competency Programme (PCCP) Taught programme of approximately 50 hours run over several months to develop competencies in core palliative care skills that aims to result in sustained improvement in practice. Mentorship provided. Requires support from manager. Suitable for qualified health care professionals who have regular contact with patients with palliative care needs. Tier 4 European Certificate in Essential Palliative Care (ECEPC) This distance learning course over 8 weeks results in a certificate in palliative care and is assessed at Level 6 (degree Level) by a variety of methods including critical reflection, multiple choice and oral examinations. Suitable for health care professionals who are new to working in specialist palliative care or regularly work with patients who have palliative care needs. Fee 450 1

The European Certificate in Essential Palliative Care (ECEPC) is aimed at helping those professionals consolidate and develop their palliative care confidence and expertise, in accordance with Ambitions for Palliative Care and End of Life Care Strategy 2015-2020. The course is designed to meet the needs of healthcare professionals new to specialist palliative care services who wish to establish strong foundation of knowledge on which to build specialist knowledge and skills. The course was first developed at Princess Alice Hospice in 2001. It is now offered at a range of sites both nationally and internationally. The local site is,. This is an eight week distance learning course which involves approximately 50 hours of study. Assessment includes a written examination, reflective portfolio and an oral assessment.
