8 Source: State of Michigan (2017). Interim Report of the Flint Water Crisis (Criminal) Investigation. The Flint water crisis is a man made disaster of significant proportions. The precipitating event for the crisis occurred on April 25, 2014, when the City of Flint made the switch from the Detroit Water & Sewer Department to the Flint River, without applying corrosion control.
9 No safe blood level has been identified and all sources of lead exposure for children should be controlled or eliminated. Lead concentrations in drinking water should be below the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency s action level of 15 parts per billion (Morbidity 2004; Mortality Weekly Report). Center for Disease Control
10 Lead mimics calcium in the body. Lead can be passed from mother to baby. Calcium serves as a medium for brain signals. IQ reductions from 100 to 86 recorded. Lead poisoning is irreversible.
