1 RED RIBBON EXPRESS in in KATIHAR 11th & 12th JULY 2010 LINK WORKER SCHEME BAL MAHILA KALYAN, KATIHAR Supported by: PLAN India, BSACS, NACO and UNDP
2 Introduction Red Ribbon Express a National HIV awareness campaign through a special train. In the first phase of Red Ribbon Express train was started from Delhi on 1 st December 2007 with specially design 7 coaches and covered 24 states of India. The second run (phase-ii) of Red Ribbon Express train flagged off from Safderganj Station on 1 st December 2009 by UPA Chairperson Smt. Sonia Gandhi. The RRE will visit 152 halt station in 22 States. The concept is a broad based multimedia, multi sectoral mass mobilization project in the country to make it a holistic & comprehensive campaign to mobilize people s movement against HIV/AIDS. The Red Ribbon Express train was reached on evening 5:00 PM of 10 th July 2010 at Katihar Station. This was rare even for Katihar District, So, The Link Worker Team and other staff of Bal Mahila Kalyan along with Plan India Team, BSACS, UNDP ware actively participated the event at Katihar Station on July 2010 by mobilizing community people, Signature campaign, vehicle campaign etc. Inauguration: - The programme of Red Ribbon Express has started on 11 th July
3 2010 at Katihar Station. First of this occasion, the children s (affected or infected with HIV/AIDS) were welcomed to all chairpersons by Flower Booke. They were welcomed to the Honorable M.P. (Katihar) Mr. Nikhil Kr. Chaudhary, Mr. Tarkishor Prasad (MLA, Katihar), Mr. Rajvansi Singh (MLC), Mr. Patil (DRM-Railway), Mr. Sanjay Rotiyar (ADRM-Railway), Dr. Yogendra Prasad (CS-Health), CMHO-Railway, Smt. Anila Kumari (Secretary-Bal Mahila Kalyan), and all respected persons one by one. Then all guests were lightening the lamp for every success of the programme. Than all respected Chairperson and other guest going to RRE entrance of the coach No.1 and Starts the exhibition for all common peoples by the cutting Red Ribbon at 10:00 am and all honorable person visits in Coach No.1 to 4 of Exhibition, meet to trainer & training participants in
4 Coach No.5 and also meet to counseling & Testing team in Coach No.6. After that chairperson Mr. Nikhil kr. Chaudhary & others, articulate their own words about RRE in front of Electronic & Print Media. Media persons also meet to Mr. Mohnish kr., CEO- RRE, NACO, Smt. Anila Kumari Secretary of BAL MAHILA KALYAN & others officials and taken brief Bytes & experience about RRE and than Print & Electronic Media flash the massage of RRE on large scale and boom it. Signature Campaign: - A Big Flax (72 square feet) was displayed in Front of RRE train for all the visitors who visited the RRE can put their signature on the flax. It was a symbolic that the entire signatory visited the RRE and got valuable information regarding HIV/AIDS. Vehicle Campaign: - Flag off by Honorable Health Minister Mr. Nand kishor Yadav on 6 th July 2010 at Patna of Two branded Vehicles designed by Bihar State AIDS Control Society, Panta for the awareness & information
5 campaigning. After that Dr. Yogendra Prasad (CS, Katihar) also flag off at Sadar Hospital, Katihar on 7 th July During this campaign BCC and information about RRE in the rural area of the District Katihar by the two Branded Buses from 07 th July About villages cover by these buses around/ periphery of the District head quarter on 12 th July The many activities done by the team member of the Buses like Nukkad Natak, Folk Songs, Awareness Song, Demonstration of Condom etc and also distribution of IEC materials, pamphlets, booklets, poster etc. During the vehicle campaign about 4000 to 5000 peoples have seen the all activities by the Nukkad Natak Team. After that started the Cultural activities:- 1.) Welcome song by Uma Devi School, Katihar. 2.) Nritya Natika by Navodaya Vidhyalaya, kolasi, Katihar. 3.) Folk Dance by Mother Maddy School, Katihar. 4.) Western dance by Uma Devi, Katihar Scholars.
6 5.) Drama JINDAGI JINDABAD related to HIV/AIDS with 3 awareness song by Uma Devi School, Katihar. Facilitation for the Infected and Affected Children s with HIV : - Link Worker Scheme, Bal Mahila Kalyan coordination with Plan Patna team organized facilitation for encouragement of CLHA and affected children s. We were given water bottle, Pencil Box with Scale, Eraser, Sharpener, etc. each children. Prize distribution by Mr. Amar Kr. Das Station Manager- Railway Katihar Parimal Kumar Jha (PO-SMU, Patna), Anila Kumari (Secretary-BMK), Mr. Gyanodaya Prakash(PLAN INDIA), Mr. Navin Rai(adviser-BMK), Smt. Nutan Devi, AWW, Mr. Rajkumar Singh(President-KNP+) and BMK team. Condom / O.C. pills Distribution:- Condom distribution and demonstration by the Link Workers (Bal Mahila Kalyan) and JANANI team members through the open counter at the Railway campus condoms distributed in this camp and 227 strips of Mala-D & OC pills distributed.
7 Distribution CAPs and T-ShirtsThe BSACS have distributed Caps and T-Shirts to all volunteers of the coach management team. Link Worker Scheme, Plan India and Bal Mahila kalyan has distributed T- Shirts and Caps for all Red Ribbon Club members and Volunteers of Link worker scheme Registration & Counseling Counter Link Worker Scheme (Bal Mahila Kalyan) has established stalls for counseling and registration. Link Worker was display Link Worker Kit and counseled the common peoples through various methods by kit like condom demo, playing cards, story of Sunita & Rahi etc community peoples Registered and counseled by the Link Worker Team.

11 Preparation of LWS, BMK for WELCOME to RRE in Katihar Railway Junction Staff meeting We conducted the staff meeting cum training at HO, BMK, and Katihar for RRE welcome & How to communicate the massage at all level. After this meeting/discussion, we Finalized the strategy among RRE. 1) Each Staff interacts to 10 people (min.) every day at village, Panchayat, Block & District level as per designation. 2) Prepare the rout chart for Vehicle Campaign and as per village movement Link worker responsible for this campaign. 3) Day-to-day reporting through chain system and also submitted the document in HO BMK, Katihar weekly or fortnightly based.
12 4) Short-out the problem at field level quickly through chain system or clarity. 5) Target the PLHA, CLHA, High Risk groups, slums, SHGs, PRIs, Service providers, youth/ adolescents, etc as per rights and need based approach. 6) Target the mob related points like as Schools, Health centers, Markets, etc. for Nukkad Natak, display of RRE banner, pamphlets distribution, etc as per priority based. 7) We have also finalized the duty of RRE volunteers inside & out-side of coach. Meeting Cum training for RRE Management We were organized meeting cum training support from Mr. Nilash Kumar (Deputy Director- ICTC) and Mr. Parimal Kumar (PO-SMU, BSACS) on 08 th July 2010 at BMK office. Firstly Mr. Nilesh ji present details of RRE train and its coach facilities. Mr. Parimal ji defined duties and responsibilities of Link Workers, ASHAs, Volunteers of BMK, Volunteers of KNP+,
13 LWS and BMK officials for the coach management and all program management. Mr. Gyanodaya (Training Officer, LWS, Plan) and Mr. Rudra Pratap Singh (DRP-Prog, LWS, Katihar) discuss with all participants and decided inside coach & outside coach managemant and over all programme management. Pre registration:- We communicate the information about RRE in District Administration, Education, Municipality (45 wards), DRDA, Health, Private School, Railway, Agriculture, etc related all departments with letter & signature campaign. We distributed thousands and thousands pamphlets. We also informed to BDO, BEO, ICDS, PHC, PRI, Kisan clubs etc. in all 16 block of Katihar District through letter, pamphlets & signature campaign. We covered 100 Venerable villages by 40 Link Worker and also informed 47 nearest villages along with our project area. We explored the massage about RRE by 160 SHGs, 24 VIC, 50 Red Ribbon Club, 328 Condom Depot Holders, Local Haat (market) & Auto-Rickshaw-Labor-Kuli-Trade Union, etc. through Banner, poster, wall writing display, pamphlets distribution,
14 Nukkad Natak, Awareness Song, Door-to-door contact, telephonically convergence, etc Vehicle Campaign:- The two vehicle provided by BSACS, Patna for the information and aware all community people the RRE and HIV/ AIDS. Our team was provided support for the planning of rout chart. Also the two volunteers were deputed from each village with the vehicle team for support at village level activity. PRABHAT-PHERI:- Bal Mahila Kalyan have organized the PRABHAT- PHERI movement for welcome to RRE in Katihar district at 07:00 am on 11 th July 2010, from different areas to Katihar r ailway station. In these movement 300 approx. students, 50 approx. Gram Sakhi, 400 approx. SHG members, etc. participated.
