1 Assessment Field Activity Cllabrative Assessment, Planning, and Supprt: Safety and Risk in Teams OBSERVATION Identify a case fr which a team meeting t discuss safety and/r safety planning is needed r scheduled. The trainee will cnsult with the assigned scial wrker and field advisr abut the apprpriateness f bserving the meeting. If apprpriate, the scial wrker will btain permissin frm the family fr the trainee t bserve the meeting. (Nte: This ptin is intended ONLY fr trainees withut access t a case/caselad fr which a team meeting is needed r wuld be part f the day-t-day case planning and service delivery practices.) The trainee will be able t identify the safety and risk assessment infrmatin that teams need t develp safety plans. K2. The trainee will be able t identify strategies fr hw he/she will engage the family in the prcess. Skill S1. The trainee will be able t develp a safety plan with a child and family team. OR S2. The trainee will bserve a child and family team meeting and cmplete an bservatin tl. Values V1. The trainee will value the rle f the team in develping a safety plan. Activity Practice Area: Assessment Califrnia Cre Practice Mdel Practice Behavirs: 1 (a-f), 3 (a-c), 4 (a-g), 7 (a-f), 8 (a-e), 9 (a-f), 10 (a-c), 12 (a-h) Estimated Time Required: 3 hurs Descriptin f Activity: The trainee will participate in a team meeting with a family n his/her caselad OR bserve a team meeting with the permissin f the scial wrker and the family. 2 the family tgether with the child welfare agency t discuss safety and safety planning. At the cnclusin f the meeting, the trainee will have participated in develping a plan that ensures safety fr the child/yuth r will have cmpleted an bservatin tl related t the discussin f safety and risk in the team meeting. Befre the practice pprtunity Field Advisr Respnsibility: p Becme familiar with the safety and risk definitins in the SDM plicy and prcedure manual. Have a cpy f the manual available fr reference during the meeting with the trainee. p Determine with the trainee which ptin frm the activity descriptin abve (active case r bservatin) is mst apprpriate. Sme cnsideratins include: trainee s case/caselad assignment, trainee s psitin and jb respnsibilities within the agency. p Wrk with the trainee t select a case fr this field activity. p Wrk with the trainee t identify a case fr which a team meeting t discuss safety and/r safety planning is needed r scheduled. The field advisr may need t cntact ther unit supervisrs r scial wrkers t identify a case. p Once a case has been identified fr this activity, arrange a brief meeting with the assigned scial wrker t review the purpse f the trainee s bservatin. p Wrk with the assigned scial wrker t btain permissin frm the family fr the trainee t bserve the meeting. p Once the family has given permissin fr trainee t bserve the meeting, wrk with the assigned scial wrker and trainee t set up a brief meeting t discuss imprtant backgrund infrmatin. The field advisr will help guide the discussin with bth the trainee and assigned scial wrker present. Discuss with the scial wrker wh the family has identified as their circle f supprt and/r safety netwrk. Wh is anticipated t participate in the team meeting? Discuss with the scial wrker hw the family s culture and trauma histry may have an impact n the meeting. Hw has the scial wrker explred this with the family? Hw have participants been prepared fr the meeting? Encurage the assigned scial wrker t describe their prcess fr preparing families fr team meetings. Discuss dcuments, materials, r ther infrmatin that may be helpful fr the trainee t review prir t the meeting t help better understand the family s histry and current circumstances. As an bserver, the trainee will cmplete the bservatin wrksheet, which will be reviewed with the field advisr fllwing the meeting. Scial Wrker Respnsibility: p In partnership with the field advisr identify a case fr which a team meeting t discuss safety and/r safety planning is needed r scheduled. p Once the family has given permissin fr trainee t bserve the meeting, participate in a brief meeting with the field advisr and assigned scial wrker t becme mre familiar with the case t be bserved. The field advisr will facilitate the discussin. The field advisr may ask questins abut: Purpse f the team meeting What rle will the scial wrker be playing in the meeting (facilitatr r participant)?
