No February 2006 Chemical Formula: I 5 Formula CAS No: 3080 Hazardous Ingredients: Iodine PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES CAUTION: MAY CAUSE EYE AND SKIN IRRITATION, AVOID DIRECT CONTACT WITH EYES, SKIN OR CLOTHING. WEAR GOGGLES AND PLASTIC GLOVES WHEN HANDLING. EMERGENCY/FIRST AID INGESTION: If conscious, drink large quantities of milk or water, transport to hospital and observe for signs of iodine toxicity. If no hospital is available, induce vomiting, drink large quantities of milk or water and observe for adverse reaction. If unconscious or convulsing, transport to hospital immediately. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. IN CASE OF CONTACT WITH EYES: Wash thoroughly with water for 15 minutes. If irritation persists, see a physician. In case of contact with skin, wash with mild soap and water. If irritation persists, see a physician. Contaminated clothing should be washed before reuse. SEE SECTION 5. Appearance: Odor: SECTION 1 Physical Data: Purplish-black beads. Pungent; that of elemental iodine, only weaker. Solubility:. 2 2 mg/i I 2 at 20 C. Boiling Point: Iodine resin will sublime at 184 C. Fire: Explosion: SECTION 2 Fire and Explosion Information: Not combustible, but substance is a strong oxidizer and its heat of reaction with reducing agents or combustibles may cause ignition. Contact with oxidizable substances may cause extremely violent combustion. Fire Extinguishing Media: Special Information: Use any means suitable for extinguishing surrounding fire. Water spray may be used to keep fire exposed containers cool. In the event of a fire, wear full protective clothing and NIOSH-approved self-contained breathing apparatus with full facepiece operated in the pressure demand or other positive pressure mode. Stability: Hazardous Decomposition Products: Hazardous Polymerization: Incompatibilities: SECTION 3 Reactivity Data: Stable under ordinary conditions of use and storage. Toxic gases and vapors may be released if involved in a fire. This substance does not polymerize. Incompatible with ammonia, powered metals, alkali metals, or strong reducing agents. Reaction can be violent or explosive with acetaldehyde and acetylene. Reacts with ammonium hydroxide to form shock-sensitive iodine s on drying. SECTION 4 Leak / Spill Disposal Information: PentaPure is not dangerous to handle, when repackaging. If the resin is dried, it will release slight iodine fumes. Dry resin should be handled with gloves and goggles and a respirator. Wet resin can be handled without a respirator. SECTION 5 - Health Hazard Information: A. Exposure / Health Effects:

3 Inhalation: Ingestion; Skin Contact: Eye Contact: Chronic Exposure: Iodine vapors severely irritate the mucous membranes and respiratory tract. Excessive tears, rhinitis, tightness in the chest, sore throat, headache and delayed pulmonary edema can result. May cause burning sensations, severe corrosive gastroenteritis, abdominal pain, diarrhea, fever, vomiting, stupor and shock. Probable lethal dose is 2 to 4 gm of free iodine. Does not cause irritation with normal handling. Direct contact with eyes could cause irritation. May cause insomnia, conjunctivitis, inflammation of the nasal mucous, bronchitis, tremor, rapid heart beat, diarrhea and weight loss. Allergic sensitization can occur. Aggravation of Persons with pre-existing skin disorders, eye problems, impaired Pre-Existing Conditions: respiratory function, or disease of the Thyroid, lungs, or kidney may be more susceptible to the substance. B. First Aid: Inhalation; Ingestion: Skin Contact: Eye Contact: Remove to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Call physician. Observe for the development of pulmonary edema. Give water or milk to drink. Induce vomiting if medical help is not immediately available. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Wash with mild soap and water. If irritation persists, see a physician. Contaminated clothing should be washed before reuse. Wash eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, lifting lower and upper eyelids occasionally. Get medical attention immediately. C. 4 Airborne Exposure Limits: Ventilation System: Personal Respirators: Skin Protection: Eye Protection: SECTION 6 Occupational Control Measures: OSHA Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL) for iodine: 0.1 ppm (TWA) Ceiling ACGIH Threshold Limit Valve (TLV) for iodine: 0.1 ppm (TWA) Ceiling A system of local or general exhaust is recommended to keep employee exposures below the Airborne Exposure Limits. Local exhaust ventilation is generally preferred because it can control the emissions of the contaminate at its source, preventing dispersion of it into the general work area. Please refer to the ACGIH document Industrial Ventilation, A Manual of Recommended Practices, most recent edition for details. If the TLV is exceeded a full facepiece chemical cartridge respirator may be work, in general, up to 100 times to TLV or the maximum use concentration specified by the respirator supplier, whichever is less. Alternatively, a supplied air full piece respirator or airlined hood may be worn. With normal handling, the skin does not need to be covered. Maintain eye wash fountain and quick-drench facilities in work area. SECTION 7 Storage and Special Information: Store this product in non-metallic container resistant to the corrosive action of iodine, such as glass containers or fiber drums lined with polyethylene. Keep moist (preferably with deionized water), by storing resin beads with small layer of water above the settled resin. Keep away from direct sunlight or excessive heat. Do not allow resin to freeze.
