2 Malaysian Society of Allergy and Immunology (MSAI) Message from the Malaysian Society of Allergy and Immunology (MSAI) Dear Colleagues On behalf of the Malaysian Society of Allergy and Immunology (MSAI), we would like to extend our warmest invitation to you to attend the 18 th Malaysian Congress and Exhibition on Allergy and Immunology in Kuala Lumpur. This congress will be jointly organised with the Indonesian Society of Allergy and Immunology (ISAI), and for the first time MSAI is having the collaboration with ISAI, having had such join meetings with our sister societies from Singapore (ACIS) and Thailand (AAIAT). Allergic diseases continue to be a global public health issue and great efforts are being made to find newer treatment for allergic diseases, as are preventive measures with various strategies adopted. This includes the strategy of addressing the issue as that of systemic inflammation, whereby allergic diseases are early manifestations of the spectrum of diseases that may include the metabolic syndrome. The balance of immune and metabolic homeostasis plays an important contributory role to this end. We hope that the congress will provide a good platform for the exchange of experience and expertise, and create a mutual networking atmosphere for the betterment of our patients with allergic diseases. In addition, a dedicated session on primary immunodeficiency diseases (PID) continues to be addressed in this congress, as this emerging group of diseases can no longer be considered rare, needing a similar dedicated approach for a subspecialist to provide the best possible care for these patients. Together with the Malaysian Patient Organisation for Primary Immunodeficiencies (MyPOPI), a collaboration emerged in the form of the Primary Immunodeficiencies NeTwork for Advocacy and Research Malaysia (PINTAR-MAS) with a recent advocacy white paper presented to the Ministry of Health, Malaysia for the optimal and subspecialist care for PID patients. Once again we welcome you to Kuala Lumpur and we look forward to your participation in the 2018 MSAI-ISAI Joint Congress. Best Regards. Indonesia and Malaysia have so much in common in geography, but there is a distinct difference between the two in demography which lead to differing allergy and immunology diseases between the two neighboring countries. Hence, this joint symposium could not come at a better time as it would serve as an important platform for us to share knowledge and experience, to enrich and deepen our understanding so that we would contribute to the advancement of education, health service, and research in the rapidly growing field of allergy and immunology. Allergy and immunology has seen rapid advances and progress in recent times. Homeostasis on the immune system could manifest in various forms from allergy and hypersensitivity, autoimmunity, to immunodeficiency. This complex relationship is still being studied. Medicine and treatment based on the immune system in being developed and has shown promising potential to cure some of the deadliest diseases we have ever seen. With great hope we seek to foster and nurture better networking and cooperation between Indonesia and Malaysia, and other Asian countries through this forum.
