Dra. Geraldine Diethelm-Mader RABBIT MEDICINE: A BASIC APPROACH TO VETERINARY CARE COMMON SMALL MAMMAL EMERGENCIES LIGHT THERAPY HOLISTIC TREATMENT OF WILDLIFE AND RESCUE ANIMALS Página 269

LIGHT THERAPY If animals cannot see all colors, how can we use colors to treat them? We know that dogs see Violet, Indigo, Blue, Yellow and Red, including various shades of these colors. Green, Yellow and Orange are too similar to dogs for them to tell them apart. Cats see Purple, Blue, Green and Yellow. Red, Orange and Brown appear as shades of Grey or Purple. Yet still color therapy has been successfully used in dogs, cats and horses, as well as pocket pets and birds. What we need to remember is that each color has a specific wavelength and frequency. The body absorbs light in this energetic form, regardless of what the eyes see. So Red at a wavelength of 780 to 622nm or a frequency of 384 to 483 THz (depending on the shade) has a different effect on the body than the color Blue at 492 to 455 nm or 610 to 659 THz (Tera hz). Color healing or light therapy works on all bodies due to their response to these differences in light frequencies. Looking at an Energetic Color wheel, it is divided into 12 colors, four sections. The Median Color Green; the Infra Green colors: lemon-green, yellow, orange and red; the Ultra Green Colors: Turquoise, Blue Indigo and Violet; the Circulatory/Reproductive/Emotional Colors of Scarlet, Magenta and Purple. Green brings the physical body into balance, Magenta the emotional body. Each color influences the body in it s own way. The group of Infra Green Colors are warming and moving; the Ultra Green colors more cooling and calming. Just thinking of the effects of different colors on us guides us in the effects of colors on the body in general. Green: Calms the mind and body, stimulates the pituitary gland and encourages healing of muscle and tissue. Lemon: Repair of chronic disorders, helps digestion and absorption of nutrients; promotes coughing and discharge of mucous from lungs and airways; strengthens bones, stimulates the brain, mild laxative. Página 284

Yellow: Stimulates motor nervous system, healing of nerves, lymphatic system, intestines, pancreas and bile, increases bowel movements Aids in expelling parasites Antidepressant Orange: Respiratory stimulant and healing of lung tissue, thyroid builder Depresses parathyroid Antispasmodic; increasing lactation, and gastric juices but also acts as an emetic when appropriate Red: Stimulation of sensory nervous system, heightening vision, hearing, taste, touch and smell Aids in liver regeneration; platelet and hemoglobin induction Dispensing of toxins through the skin, internal to external, causing eruptions, redness and itching until all toxins are cleared Calms radiation burns Turquoise: Sedates the brain Skin tonic, aids in skin damage repair Aids in nutrition and acute disease processes Blue: Cooling, therefore relieves inflammation, as in fever, pruritus Diaphoretic (sweating increases) Mild sedative Página 285

Indigo: Parathyroid regeneration, stimulation Thyroid depressant Respirator depressant Decreases secretions, abscesses, hemorrhage Reduces milk production Promotes phagocytosis of bacteria Sedative especially for overexcitement and hyperactivity Violet: Stimulates the spleen Decreases muscle activity, including cardiac muscle Depresses lymphatics, pancreatic excretions Tranquilizer Promotes leukocyte production Purple: Decreases pain, causes relaxation and sleep Decreases bloodpressure through vasodilation, decrease in heartrate and decrease in renal and adrenal activity Decrease in body temperature, antipyretic Depresses emotions, reproductive activity Magenta: Emotional stabilizer Stabilizes and strengthens the heart and circulation, renal and adrenal system, as well as reproductive system Página 286

Scarlet: Increases bloodpressure through venoconstriction, elevation of heartrate, and stimulation of kidneys and adrenal glands Stimulates parturition Emotional stimulant, excitatory Stimulates reproductive system and menstruation Treatment methods are varied. The light source can be yellow light in form of a flashlight or bulb, shone through colored paper or plastic, either onto a specific area or over the entire animal to tonify or sedate. A colored sheet can be placed over specific body parts and color can be added to bedding to promote healing effects. The specific color is shone over the whole body in generalized disease such as anemia, neurological problems or fever. For specific external conditions such as wounds, burns or sores, or to stimulate internal organs as in hepatitis, renal failure or pancreatitis, the respective color is infused over specific areas of the body. Light therapy, being energy work at the root, works with the body to bring about healing. The effects are therefore gradual, supportive. The more chronic a disease, the longer till recovery. Period of exposure to a specific color is typically between minutes. If different colors are indicated, they should be used separately, using the tonifying or stimulating colors (Infra Green) in the morning and the sedating or calming colors (Ultra Green) in the afternoon. You do not need to treat everything at once. Choose the most important problem and treat this, then move on to the next problem. As our pets typically have a thick haircoat much of the absorption of light frequencies occur via the eyes and any less hairy areas on the body, though there is always absorption through the bodie s energy or auric field. I encourage you to try this alternative treatment method on your hospitalized patients that have nowhere but their kennel to recouperate, or even as homework for a client that wants to try something new. You can still use conventional medicine when utilizing Color Therapy. The medicines are aiding in one area of the body while the Color Therapy is healing the energetic body and increasing the efficacy of the conventional treatment. This is just an introduction into the healing world of color. For more in-depth information and instruction, the following books may be helpful: Página 287

Amber Color Medicine: The Secrets of Color/Vibrational Healing by Charles Klotsche It is interesting to note that children s hospital rooms are often colorful and cheery, while regular hospital wards are cold and naked. Children let their environment influence their emotions much more readily than adults. But when we are sick, would it not be nicer to have a little sunshine in our lives, grown-up or not?!
