2 What is SOT? SOT is a diagnostic system, which offers specific, practical ways to understand neuro-musculoskeletal disorders. An important feature is the category system, which can be readily learned and applied to establish a logical and effective structure to the management of a patient s problem. SOT will improve your patient management by increasing your understanding of, and thereby your confidence in, your role in the different stages of the healing of your patient s condition. Some of the treatment procedures are unique to SOT but will work as a very good complement to your current technique skills. SOT also provides rationales and procedures for the viscera, extremity and cranial aspects of Chiropractic management. The teaching of SOT is done in a modular fashion such that the content of each individual module can be incorporated immediately into your practice. In general the modules are progressive, however there are some recommendations on the order of attendance. MODULES 1 & 2 FOUNDATIONS OF SOT MODULE 3 EXTREMITIES MODULE 4 CMRT (1) MODULE 5 CMRT (2). MODULE 6 ANATOMY OF SOT & CRANIAL INTRODUCTION MODULE 7 INTRODUCTION TO CRANIAL MODULE 8 SUTURAL TECHNIQUE MODULE 9 CRANIAL SPECIFIC & NON SPECIFIC TECHNIQUES MODULE 10 PAEDIATRICS MODULE 11 CATEGORY I INTRA- ORAL ADJUSTMENTS These cover an overview of SOT, the category system and cranio-sacral function. The Category I, II and III procedures are covered in a practical manner to enable you to put them into practice immediately after the weekends. Basic cranial procedures are covered, and patient management strategies are discussed. Modules 1 & 2 are foundation modules of SOT. It is strongly recommended that practitioners new to SOT complete modules 1-3 before attending others. This module covers the systematic approach to extremity adjusting including the SOT indicators and rationale for adjustment. Practical adjusting skills are covered in detail such that you will be able to put them into practice immediately. Chiropractic Manipulative Reflex Technique, or CMRT, is the SOT approach to work with viscerosomatic and somato-visceral reflexes. It can have some exceptional results in clearing long standing symptoms. This module introduces the principles of CMRT including occipital fibre analysis and indicators for organ work. Some of the more commonly encountered organ techniques are covered. This module revises the principle and indicators for CMRT and covers more of the CMRT procedures which have not yet been presented in module 4. It is strongly recommended that module 4 is taken before module 5. Dr Marc Pick covers the anatomy and physiology of cranial and dural function. He describes the neurological and pathological basis for SOT, using computer graphics and dissection models. In addition he will provide an exciting introduction to cranial ranges of motion. This module alternates with Paediatrics. It will be available This module will form the basis of an understanding of Cranial adjusting for the SOT practitioner. It will include; Landmarks, Cranial Nerves, Facial diagnosis with anatomy and physiology and a cranial range of motion technique and a review of Antidote and Basic I, II and III. This module is the complete DeJarnette seven step sutural release and follows the protocol for facilitating a Category II adjustment when sutural stress prevents it from holding. The TMJ is discussed in both the anatomy and physiology and also how the adjustments are related to the SOT Categories. How to communicate with dentists is also covered. This module covers the specialised techniques in SOT, which are extremely useful on a day to day basis. Includes techniques that can be applied for specific conditions eg. headaches, asthma and blood pressure disturbances to name a few. This module alternates with Category I Intra-orals. It will be available in the UK This module covers the SOT approach to the management of pregnancy and babies as well as children. It includes a protocol for thorough paediatric assessment and treatment of many commonly occurring paediatric conditions including: otitis media, enuresis, sucking disorders and infantile colic. This module covers facial analysis to diagnose cranial lesions and adjustments for occipital, frontal and temporal bone lesions.

3 Who teaches SOT? All SOTO Europe lecturers are certified and experienced in both the practical application and teaching of Sacro Occiptal Technique. This year they include: Jonathan Howat DC, CC, FRCC - Graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic, Davenport, Iowa USA in Practised in Rhodesia/Zimbabwe for 17 years. He founded SOTO Europe in 1986 and was its first president. He is both a Diplomate of Craniopathy and a Fellow of the International Craniopathic Society. He has taught SOT/ Cranial and Cranio Fascial Dynamics internationally since He is the author of Chiropractic Anatomy and Physiology of Sacro- Occipital Technique and Chiropractic Cranio Fascial Dynamics. He also works in private practice in Oxford, UK. Alastair Atkinson BSc, DC, FCC, FRCC - Graduated from the AECC in 1995, certified in advanced SOT in 1998, board certified Craniopath in Alastair has a wealth of knowledge and experience, has lectured for SOT Europe since 2002 and is a member of the SOTO-Europe Education Committee. He also works in private practice in Cirencester in Gloucestershire. Giles Courtis DC, FCC, FRCC - Graduated from AECC 1985, certified in advanced SOT in 1988, board certified Craniopath in Giles is a past President of SOTO Europe and is the current Chairman of the Examinations Committee. Giles works in private practice in Bath in Somerset. Jesper Dahl DC, CCSP, CCEP - Graduated from AECC 1989, CCSP qualification in 1991, Certified in advanced SOT in 1995, CCEP qualification in Jesper has a passion for sports chiropractic and works closely with orthopaedic surgeons with both pre and post-operative rehabilitative care for joint replacements. Jesper works in private practice in Maidstone in Kent. Kim Garnham DC, FCC, FRCC - Graduated from the AECC in 1982, certified in advanced SOT in 1992, board certified Craniopath in She has lectured in numerous capacities for SOTO Europe with many years lecturing the CMRT and cranial modules. She also works in private practice in Peterborough in Cambridgeshire. Kathryn Haslam BSc, DC, FRCC - Graduated from AECC 1994, certified in advanced SOT in 1997, board certified Craniopath in Kathryn has lectured for SOTO Europe for many years in Foundations of SOT, CMRT and cranial modules. She works in private practice in Knutsford in Cheshire. Lisa Lagadec DC, MCC (Animal) - Graduated from AECC in 2002, certified in advanced SOT in Lisa has worked as a table instructor and lecturer across many different modules. She has also previously been Treasurer of SOTO Europe. Lisa works in private practice in Southampton, where she has a varied patient base including expectant mums and babies, dogs and horses! Ann McDonnell DC, CCSP, FCC, FRCC - Graduated from AECC 1987, CCSP qualification in 1991, certified in advanced SOT in 1992, board certified Craniopath in Ann has extensive international experience lecturing in SOT, having taught all of the modules at some time, she also has a special interest in Soft Tissue Orthopaedics (STO). Ann is the current President of SOTO Europe and works in private practice in Blackheath in Greater London. Duncan Rockett DC - Graduated from AECC in Certified in advanced SOT in 2004, Board Certified Craniopath in Duncan has lectured extensively for SOTO Europe at both home and abroad. He is the current Vice President of SOTO Europe and Chairman of the Education Committee. Stephen Williams DC, DICS, FICS, FBCA, FRCC - Graduated from the AECC Certified in advanced SOT in 1995, Board certified Craniopath in Steve is a Fellow of the Paediatrics faculty of the College of Chiropractors and has Fellowships of the British Chiropractic Association and the International Craniopathic Society. He has lectured internationally on both craniopathy and paediatrics and is the author of Pregnancy and Paediatrics - A chiropractic approach. He is the immediate past president of SOTO-Europe and also works in private practice in Southampton in Hampshire. Alyson Wreford DC, CCSP - Graduated from AECC CCSP qualification in 1991, ICSSD Board certified Craniopath in As well as working in private practice Alyson has provided chiropractic care at various national and international sporting events and has lectured extensively with SOTO Europe as well as the British Chiropractic Sports Council and College of Chiropractors.
