13 How oils are made - distillation Distillation vs. Synthetic Extraction Low temps, little to no pressure, no solvents Maximizes therapeutic qualities Keeps chemical constituents at a quality level Incredibly specific distillation per oil Cypress = minimum 24 hours Geranium = maximum 2 hours Harvest time is also plant specific for highest therapeutic constituents

14 Different grades of oils Grade A Therapeutic Made from organically grown plants and distilled at low temperatures ONLY true pure oil Carefully cultivated and distilled precisely to maintain chemical compounds for therapeutic effects Grade B Food grade Approved to use in food items May still contain synthetics, pesticides, fertilizers, chemical extenders, carrier oils Can still be labeled as "pure"

15 Different grades of oils Grade C Perfume Often contains adulterating chemicals and solvents to gain higher yield. Solvents can be cancerous, and are in many store bought oils. They may also be diluted 80-95% with alcohol. Grade D Floral water/low grade Aromatic only and usually a byproduct of Grade A distillation. After the oil is pulled out, the left over floral water is sold to companies. They in turn will fill 5% of the bottle with this floral water, and top the rest off with carriers and label it pure. Typically found in skin and hair products with eos in them

16 Why do companies sell cheaper oils? Don t invest in proper methods to produce them for therapeutic use. They simply cut very critical corners. Pesticides = more crop to distill Solvents = more oil extracted during distillation process Diluted = stretching the oil that s distilled even further Cheaper oils DO NOT carry the same chemical make up of properly distilled therapeutic organic oils. Best case = gain an oil that smells nice with no therapeutic wellness benefit. Worst case = compromise your health and safety.
