2 Heavy Metal Testing - Introduction Once heavy metals are in the body, they tend to be sequestered away in tissue storage sites such as the brain, nervous system, kidneys, liver, bone and gut. As such they may not appear in blood, urine, feces, hair and other tissues.

3 Heavy Metal Testing - Introduction Thus the accurate assessment of body burden is nigh on impossible. Even a combination of all the possible heavy metal tests can only provide an estimate of a person s total burden. But this doesn t mean the testing isn t useful.

5 Example 1 PS Blood PS clearly has metals in his blood (recent exposure). He works in construction, so his exposure is likely to be quite high. But his porphyrins is the real giveaway: Precoproporphyrin is elevated (++) Precopro/Uro I & III ratio is elevated Both are strong indicators of mercury s toxic effects in the heme pathways Coproporphyrin is elevated, which could indicate arsenic, lead or other toxic blockages to the pathway

9 Example 2 BH Porphyrins BH s porphyrins test reveals: Elevated precpro (mercury) Elevated copro III (Al, Hg, Pb and others) Elevated Precopro/Uro I & III ratio (mercury) BH is the client I ve mentioned whose tinnitus, oral thrush and other symptoms cleared up in 1-2 weeks after 4 mercury amalgams were removed.

13 Example 3 MO Porphyrins MO s blood nutrient elements are all low; her toxic element levels are high or borderline, except cadmium. There s a clear ongoing exposure. The porphyrins is extreme all markers are elevated except the copro I/III ratio.

16 Example 3 MO Blood You can see that MO s nutrient mineral levels haven t really improved to the degree I d expect given her diligence in following the programme. Her heavy metals are still high and the cadmium has risen significantly.

17 Example 3 MO Blood When we cover hormones later in the programme, I ll show you MO s adrenal and thyroid results, which increased over time, then became stuck. Emotional and spiritual issues removed, it s likely the heavy metals are blocking factors in her progress.

19 Example 4 TB You can clearly see the extent to which the DMSA has pulled out a ton of arsenic, lead and mercury in this case. My client was struggling with fatigue, depression and other neurological symptoms (very tough case).

22 Putting it All Together How useful is the heavy metal testing? Personally I think it s incredibly useful. If nothing else, it can really motivate a client or patient to change and, if you re going to go down the route of heavy metal testing, the tests are important for establishing baseline and monitoring progress.

23 Putting it All Together The safe option would be: Porphyrins Hair Whole blood Possibly look at drinking water The more risky option (legally and healthwise) would be: Porphyrins Baseline urine Urine challenge Or just the baseline and urine challenges Possibly look at drinking water

24 Putting it All Together Remember that each practitioner has his or her own bias when it comes to any kind of testing. Opinions vary. The most important consideration in my opinion is first do no harm. In my practice, I do very little heavy metal detoxification testing and work with my clients because I feel it s somewhat beyond my legal and ethical boundary (I will likely be conducting the work in conjunction with an MD in the future).
