Hompes Method Practitioner Training Level I Lesson Seven Balancing & Optimising Blood Sugar Health for the People Ltd not for reuse without expressed permission Hompes Method is a trading name of Health For The People Ltt Registered in England & Wales Company # VAT #
Optimising Blood Sugar and Insulin In the previous presentation, you learned why balanced blood sugar is important, and why blood sugar can fall out of balance.
Optimising Blood Sugar and Insulin Since the brain and nervous system require a steady supply of glucose for optimal function, blood sugar imbalances have the potential to wreak havoc on overall health.
Optimising Blood Sugar and Insulin High blood sugar is toxic (hyperglycemia) and low blood sugar results in starvation for the brain and nervous system! No wonder the body has such an exquisite blood sugar management system.
Optimising Blood Sugar and Insulin The basics of improving blood sugar handling capacity are straightforward enough, involve optimising macronutrient optimisation and really just come with the recommendations I have already taught you
Optimising Blood Sugar and Insulin Remove bad foods (reduce inflammation and empty carb intake). Replace with good foods that are nutrient dense. Work on meal size and timing (many people do better on five smaller meals, spaced every 2.5 hours or so). * I see a lot of blood sugar problems in people who have followed a low carb diet for some time (Candida, weight loss, etc.)
Optimising Blood Sugar and Insulin Work on optimising macronutrient proportions (ratios of fat, protein and carbohydrate). Ensure a combination of glucose and fructose* Ensure optimal salt intake (sodium) as it s important for controlling stress hormones and keeping blood sugar stable.
Optimising Blood Sugar and Insulin Start with the following: Remove bad foods (gluten, processed carbs/foods, sodas, vegetable oils, soy, cow s milk). Eat protein, fat and carbohydrate at each sitting, including snacks. Eat breakfast no more than one hour after waking. Consider breaking meals down into five evenly sized portions, leaving no more than 2.5 hours between sittings. Use a bedtime snack to help maintain blood sugar overnight Fine-tune timings and macronutrient proportions
Optimising Blood Sugar and Insulin Supplements: Specific nutrients and botanicals (herbs) can be used in supplemental form to aid blood sugar balance. Even though we cover these in more detail during Hompes Method Level II, I don t mind you using these supplements with your clients in cases where their blood sugar needs some additional support.
Optimising Blood Sugar and Insulin The following help to decrease insulin resistance: Alpha lipoic acid Chromium Biotin D, L-Carnitine Vanadium Omega-3 Magnesium Cinammon Green tea polyphenols Galega officinalis
Optimising Blood Sugar and Insulin The following help improve blood sugar regulation and may improve lipid profiles and blood pressure: Silymarin (milk thistle) Banaba Maitake mushroom Gymnema sylvestre Mormodica charantia N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) Niacinamide (vitamin B 3 ) Elderberry
Optimising Blood Sugar and Insulin Supplement manufacturers have gone to great lengths to put these vitamins, minerals and botanicals into specific products that your clients and patients can use in a convenient fashion.
Optimising Blood Sugar and Insulin Please consume the interview session I conducted with David Brassey on how to use the products discussed in the following slides. Refer also to the basic protocols provided in the resources section. (HMPT II contains several of these interviews, as David and I discuss at length the specific ways we can support thyroid, adrenal and sex hormone balance).
Glysen (K-1) Glysen (K-1) - formulated for elevated blood sugar. It is a combination of herbs and vitamins that support insulin receptor site sensitivity and intercellular signaling alterations.
ProGlyco-SP (K-13) ProGlyco-SP (K-13) - provides a broad spectrum of glandulars and minerals to improve the nutritive and biological conditions for a better control of blood sugar. Also contains antioxidants.
Protoglysen (K-28) Protoglysen (K-28) is formulated to work with Glysen for healthy insulin and blood sugar management.
DiabeTone DiabeTone - is a comprehensive product that addresses elevated blood sugar function and promotes healthy balance and regulation.
Gluco-Mend Gluco-Mend - Gluco- Mend contains a special blend of nutrients and herbal extracts specifically designed to support cardiovascular health (note helps with glycation and AGEs).
Glycation Manager Glycation Manager - designed to slow the formation of advanced glycation end-products (AGEs) and protein glycation associated with normal metabolism and aging.
Metabolic Synergy Metabolic Synergy - designed by a medical doctor specializing in blood sugar and endocrine health concerns. It includes state-of-the-art, newly researched, anti-glycating agents such as carnosine, benfothiamine and pyridoxamine.
Glysen Synergy Glysen Synergy - combines four formulas that work together to support sugar metabolism and help maintain blood sugar levels. Glysen, Adaptocrine, Fibromin*, and Protoglysen are combined into one easy-to-use package
Berberine An interesting snippet of research, done by Dr. Jonathan Wright, MD (one of the forefathers of integrative medicine) pulled out several studies indicating that Berberine is effective for reducing blood sugar and other parameters of metabolic syndrome and type II diabetes.
Berberine Dr. Wright cites several studies supporting the use of this herb for supporting healthy blood sugar levels: 500mg twice (BID) or three times (TID) Improvements comparable to Metformin Fasting blood sugar, postprandial, HbA1c, Tg, Cholesterol, LDL Fasting insulin and insulin resistance Mechanisms of action
Hormones and Blood Sugar I d like you to consume the following Ray Peat articles as they will give you a different perspective on sugar than is typically taught (revision from HM Level I):
Optimising Blood Sugar - Summary Remember: you don t have a hope of restoring optimal health unless you get client/patient blood sugar levels optimised. Blood sugar is tied to everything!
Thank You! Thanks a million for consuming this information. I look forward to seeing you on the next lesson where we look at the specifics of optimising sleep.
