Cell Organelles
Cell Membrane
Cell Membrane!
Cell Membrane! Function: Controls the passage of materials into an out of the cell. The boundary between a cell and the outside environment. Very, very important so we will come back to this. Things to know:! Hydrophilic/phobic Phospholipid Bilayer
Things to know:! Hydrophilic/phobic Phospholipid Bilayer Cell Membrane!
Cell Membrane!
Function: Jelly-like substance that contains dissolved molecular building blocks like Cell Membrane! proteins, nucleic acids, minerals, and ions. Made of mostly waters and fills excess space. Provides turgor.
Cell Membrane!
Centrosome (made up of two centrioles) produces Microtubules Cell Membrane!
Centrosome (made up of two centrioles) produces Microtubules Microtubules are used as support and Cell Membrane! also to for cilia and flagela (provides movement) Also used in cell division Things to know:! Cilia Flagela Cell Division
Cell Membrane!
Network of proteins that link together to make fibers that provide the cell structure and shape. There are three main types of fibers. Cell Membrane!
1) Microtubules (from centromere) are hollow tubes. Act as tracks for other organelles. Cell Membrane! 2) Intermediate filaments are a little smaller than Microtubles and give cell strength. 3) Microfilaments. The smallest of the three. Tiny Threads that enable cell to move and divide. Important in muscle cells as they allow them to contract.
Cell Membrane!
Two Very Important Demands Required of the 1. DNA must be carefully protected Cell Membrane 2. DNA must be available for use at the proper time! Function: Protect DNA and to make! (which are made in the Nucleolus) Things to know:! Nucleolus Chromosomes Nuclear Envelope Nuclear Pores
Cell Membrane!
Function:! Production of proteins Cell Membrane and lipids!! Things to know:! Lumen Rough ER Smooth ER
Cell Membrane!
Function: To package up proteins and clean them up for shipment. Analogy: Local Post Office Cell Membrane! Words to know:! Lumen Incoming Transport Vesicle Secretory Vesicle
Cell Membrane!
Cell Membrane!
Function: Storage of materials for cell. Materials Cell Membrane including: Water, Food Molecules, inorganic Ions, and Enzymes. They have a much bigger role in Plant Cells!
Cell Membrane!
Function: Supplies the energy to the cell. Converts food we eat into usable energy. We will come back to Cell Membrane this but you should know its main function above.!
Function: Supplies the energy to the cell. Converts food we eat into usable energy. We will come back to Cell Membrane this but you should know its main function above. Interesting Fact: have their own Ribsomes and DNA which suggests that they were once free-living prokaryotes.!
Cell Membrane!
Function: are needed to separate some reactants from the cell until ready to Cell Membrane use.!
Cell Membrane!
Cell Membrane
Function: Defend the cell from invading bacteria and viruses. They also breakdown old/dead organellescontain Cell Membrane enzymes They re production is a great example of ER/Golgi Relationship.!
