1 EDUCATION Ph.D., School of Biological Science, Universiti Sains Malaysia, April 2014 Dissertation: The effects of dietary fish oil replacement on growth, tissue fatty acid composition and fatty acid metabolism of red hybrid tilapia and genetically improved farmed Nile tilapia. Supervisor: Prof. Ng Wing Keong Field: Aquaculture B.S. (Hons), School of Biological Science, Universiti Sains Malaysia, August 2007 Final year project: The effect of vitamin E on the reproductive performance of female swordtail (Xiphophorus helleri) Supervisor: Prof. Ng Wing Keong Major: Aquatic Biology Minor: Psychology WORK & RESEARCH EXPERIENCE Graduate Intern Universiti Sains Malaysia, April 2013 June Involved in the project Transferring knowledge to fish and shrimp farmers on the beneficial use of organic acids as an alternative to harmful antibiotics in the aquaculture industry. - Conducted two separate on-farms research studies in collaboration with Gold Coin Specialities Ltd, and Cargill Feed Ltd, respectively: i) Applications of dietary organic acid to black tiger shrimp, Penaeus monodon, productivity on a commercial farm and associated nutrient utilization and bacterial resistance in the laboratory. ii) The use of dietary organic acid to superior tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus, productivity on a large scale production farm (Trapia) and associated nutrient utilization and immune response. - Conducted two different lab experiments comparing the effects of coated and uncoated dietary organic acids blend and oxytetracycline on the growth, nutrient

2 utilization, immune response and gut microbiota of the red hybrid tilapia, Oreochromis sp., and their resistance to Streptococcus agalactiae. - Helped prepare the technical report for the lab and farm trials. Research Assistant (Pembantu Pelajar) Universiti Sains Malaysia, August Dec 2011; August - Dec 2012 Supervised daily operation of fish nutrition laboratory and took charge of lab supplies and inventories. Assisted graduate and undergraduate students in their research projects. Checked and gave technical and scientific comments on thesis of graduate and undergraduate students. Developed protocols for nitroblue tetrazolium measurement, serum lysozyme assay, and Na + /K + -ATPase activity measurement. Taught discussion and laboratory sections for advanced zoology practical courses, including osmoregulation in aquatic animals, heartbeat, pulse rate and blood pressure and red blood cell fragility in hypotonic solutions, and supervised mini project on Animal Behaviour. TEACHING EXPERIENCE Tutor (USM Fellowship), Universiti Sains Malaysia, July June Advanced Zoology Practical Prof. Ng Wing Keong & Associate Prof. Aileen Tan Shau Hwai - Handling of chemicals, ability to read technical instructions, operating analytical equipment, team work, report writing and data analysis - Different aspects of animal sample preparation, handling and analysis - Research on various topics concerning different aspects of animal behavior, scientific paper writing and mini seminar presentation. 2. Biostatistics Prof. Chan Lai Keng - Discussion on variability in biological data; probability distribution for binomial, Poisson and normal discussion, and hypothesis testing - Sampling and sample size; one and two way analysis of variance; experimental design randomized complete block, Latin square; treatment design: factorial experiments; special technique in biology 3. Aquaculture Prof. Ng Wing Keong - Field visit to aquaculture sites and scientific reports writing - Scientific oral presentations on aquaculture-related topics
