1 chapter 8.1 BEVERLY SUE LUTTRELL Levon & Bill s first-born (b. 1944) Sue remembers Grandma being a very good cook and would always make the best big breakfasts. She also made the best fried chicken, and it is a recipe Sue still uses to this day. Beverly Sue Luttrell was the first born of William and Levon Hartley Luttrell. She was born January 5, 1944, in Springfield, MO, while her dad was serving in the U.S. Navy. Her early years were spent on Grandma Hartley s farm at Williams Hollow west of Ava, MO. She has loving memories of her time with Grandma Hartley, and she formed a very special bond with her that would continue her whole life. Sue remembers Grandma being a very good cook and would always make the best big breakfasts. She also made the best fried chicken, and it is a recipe Sue still uses to this day. There were also many times spent picking blackberries and hazelnuts. Still Sue s favorite flavoring to use in baking is hazelnut. Sue and Grandma Hartley used to go fishing for catfish on Uncle Eldon s place that was also on Grandma s land. They would use cane poles and then fry up the catfish for dinner. Grandma had a very green thumb and could grow anything and always had a big garden. Sue enjoyed going to Lizzie Eslick s secondhand shop in Ava with Grandma. She has fond memories of Grandma gently combing her hair ca Bill & Levon (Hartley) Luttrell holding baby Sue at Grandma Hartley s Farm 186 Hartley Family
