1 THE GUILD OF MACE-BEARERS ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 2010 In ST. IVES, CAMBRIDGESHIRE ON THE 3 rd 4 th August MINUTES A. Election of Prime Warden and Renter Prime Warden. i. The Prime Warden, Steve Dennis, opened the meeting and introduced The Town Mayor of St. Ives, Councillor David Hodge, who extended a Civic welcome to delegates and other guests. The Prime Warden replied. ii. iii. iv. The Prime Warden asked for nominations for the Office of Prime Warden for 2010/11. It was proposed by Alan Jenkins, seconded by Stephen Smith, and AGREED unanimously That John Smoothy of the Town of St. Ives, Cambridgeshire be elected to the Office of Prime Warden of the Guild of Mace-Bearers for The Town Mayor of St. Ives invested John Smoothy with the badge of office and congratulated him. The Prime Warden, John Smoothy, addressed the meeting and concluded by thanking Steve Dennis for his efforts during his year of office and presented him with his Past Prime Warden s Badge. Steve Dennis replied. The Prime Warden asked for nominations for the Office of Renter Prime Warden for 2010/11. It was proposed by Bill Olive, seconded by Les love, and AGREED unanimously That Peter Townsend be elected to the Office of Renter Prime Warden of the Guild of Mace-Bearers for the year 2010/11. v. At the invitation of the Prime Warden, The Town Mayor of St. Ives invested Peter Townsend with the badge of office and congratulated him. vi. It was proposed by the Prime Warden, seconded by the Guild Clerk, and AGREED That the Town Mayor of St. Ives be thanked for honouring the Guild of Mace-Bearers with his presence at their conference. There was some discussion about the account for last year's conference, it was explained that Swansea City Council very generously paid the costs for the dinner as a generous gift to the Guild of Mace Bearers. iii. Guild Training Officer. Vacancy. iv. Guild Editor Written. v. Guild Welfare Officer Written. Added to the report was the death of George Adams and the Guild dinner raffle, raised 190 for the welfare fund. vi. Guild Webmaster Written. Proposed by Alan Spencer, seconded by Edward Barrett, and AGREED that the reports be accepted. I. Election of Guild Officers for 2010/11. Ordinary plus joining fee for Manual. b. Honorary 5.00 (Magazine). L. Officers Expenses. Proposed by Edward Barrett, seconded by Ron Crabb, and AGREED that expenses for 2010/11 Remain at: a per mile for car travel (distances calculated on MSN Maps & Directions) or the actual cost of public transport which ever is the lower and b. 45 (single night only) towards accommodation. M. Honoraria. Proposed by Edward Barrett, seconded by Ron Crabb, and AGREED that the Guild Clerk, Guild Bursar, Guild Training Officer and Guild Editor should each receive an honorarium of to be paid in arrears. N. Donations Proposed by Alister Hopkins, seconded by Stan Weatherhead, and AGREED that a donation of be given to the Mayor at the next years conference. O. Venue and date for Conference and AGM Proposed by Alan Jenkins, seconded by Geoff Robbins, and AGREED that the venue and dates for Conference and the Guild Annual General Meeting be in the London Borough of Croydon on the 3,4,5 February 2011 and to be arranged by the Renter Prime Warden, Guild Clerk and Guild Training Officer and confirmed by the Guild Council. P. Motions for Conference. No Motions have been received. Q. Amendments to the Manual of the Mace. The Manual has been reprinted. The Guild Clerk will put a letter in the magazine, asking all members if they wish to have a copy and if they could or send a letter to the Guild Clerk requesting a copy. R. Any Other Business. Gill Weatherhead, asked if more time could be given to questions and answers for Guild members. The Guild Clerk explained that more time had been allocated, butdue to a last minute change to the programme, there was insufficient time for this. There will be a whole session on questions and answers on protocol and Guild matters in the conference to be held in February 2011.
5 The Prime Warden thanked the Peter Townsend for all his help in arranging this years conference and Eric Burridge for being his Mace Bearer for the conference and he also thanked Owen Collier for being his Toastmaster at the Guild dinner. Vote of thanks. Proposed by Bill Olive, seconded by Martin Williams, and AGREED that a vote of thanks be given to The Town Mayor of St Ives and his staff, and in particular to the Prime Warden John Smoothy for their contribution towards a most successful conference.
