Body Conditioning** Men s Book Club PREVENTING the Flu There is no cure for the flu so it is very important that you take steps to avoid getting the flu. Here are some healthy things you can do: Get a flu shot every year. Wash your hands regularly throughout the day. Avoid touching your face too much. Drink plenty of liquids and cut down on alcohol, soda and coffee that have caffeine in them. Get plenty of fresh air. Do aerobic exercise regularly. Eat a healthy diet that includes yogurt and dark green, red and yellow fruits and vegetables. Don t smoke and avoid smoky rooms. Get plenty of rest Avoid crowds and close contact with people who are sick. Halloween Celebration! Halloween is a day of costumes, candy and fun. Join us on Wednesday, October 31st with your costume and appetite for a day of treats, fun and good food. For a $5.00 contribution you will enjoy: 8:30am Breakfast: Orange Juice / Kaiser or Challah Rolls or Assorted Bagels with Cream Cheese, Jelly, Peanut Butter and Margarine / Assorted Donuts and Danish /Banana / Coffee, Tea or Hot Chocolate 10:30am: Entertainment with John Weber 12:00pm: Luncheon 1:00pm: Brownies SYMPTOMS of the Flu Unlike a cold that comes on gradually, the flu begins suddenly with a headache, chills, and a cough and is then immediately followed by fever, loss of appetite, muscle aches and tiredness. You can also have a runny nose, a sore throat and pain when you move your eyes. Most people recover from the flu within 7 to 10 days, although the tiredness can last much longer. If you get the flu, take care of yourself by getting plenty of rest and drinking plenty of liquids. Avoid infecting others by staying home and using a tissue when you cough and sneeze. Ask your doctor or nurse whether you should take medication for your flu symptoms. Call your doctor if you improve but then you seem to get worse again, of if after 7 to 10 days you have: A worse cough or if you see yellow, green, rust colored, or bloody mucus when you blow your nose. Persistent fever Ear pain, sore throat, sinus pain
