3 4 TH CEN MEETING (SOFIA, MARCH 2018) Highlights from the meeting: CEN workplan 2018 updated and agreed Workshop on communicating group activity testing EFSA draft guidance EU Insights presentation of 2017 report, discussion on 2018 survey topic MS issues: anti-obesity campaign (ES), TV cooking and kitchen hygiene (DE), 5 keys to safer food (CR) Follow-up: MS active involvement in «hot topic» calls of interest (eg. Fipronil, Opium Alkaloids) EFSA/MS to start revamp of risk communication guidelines Helped test aspects of EFSA s draft guidance and MS feedback will be included in public consultation 2017 report on emerging risks published Poll held on topics for 2018, woth «chemical mixtures» selected 3

4 EU INSIGHTS UPDATE 2018: Emerging Risks Literature review and online consumer survey in 25 member states Findings: more concern over established risks; significant country differences in perceptions of ER; demand for early communication of ER despite uncertainty. Practical outcome: recommendations on communicating 2019: Chemical Mixtures Based on vote by member states Aligned with drafting of EFSA MixTox guidance Aims: understand public risk perception of chemical mixtures & develop relevant, targeted comms
