The total cost is 49.50, including a 2% booking fee. What is the price of a single ticket excluding the booking fee? [1] Question 2. Barry orders a pair of shoes online from an American retailer. The cost is in dollars. He has to pay US$81 for the shoes plus postage costs of US$9. If the exchange rate for one US dollar is 0.80, what will be the total cost of Barry s order be in s? [1] Question 3. A school bought 200 apples at 40p each to sell as toffee apples. They used 2 kg of sugar costing 1 per kg to make the toffee. If they sell all the toffee apples for 1.50 each, how much profit did they make? [1] Question 4. The floor of a rectangular room measuring 12 m x 6 m is to be tiled. The tiles to be used are square with the length of each tile being 30cm. Calculate the number of tiles required: [1]
4 Question 5. (a) There are 5 marbles in a bag: 4 are blue, and 1 is red. If a marble is picked from the bag at random, what is the probability that a blue marble gets picked? Express your answer as a percentage [1] (b) In another bag, there are 10 marbles: 5 are blue, 2 are red, 3 are yellow. If two marbles are picked from the bag, one after the other, what is the probability that both are blue? Express your answer as a percentage, to two decimal places [1] Question 6. If an athlete is able to sprint 100 metres in 10 seconds, what is the average speed of the athlete in kilometres per hour? [2]
5 Question 7. Solve the following equations for x and y: (a) 3x + 4 = x [1] (b) y = [1] Question 8. A badminton team is planning a social dinner. Dinner at the restaurant costs 14 a person. They will travel there and back by a coach which will cost, in total, 290. The badminton team also have 150 in their social fund which they will contribute towards the event costs. Assuming attendees will be charged 35 each to attend the event, what is the minimum number of people who need to attend if the event is to not make a loss? [2]
6 Question 9. During an outbreak of influenza, a vaccination is given to 460 people. The probability of not contracting influenza in the first 6 months after the vaccination is 95%. A further 3% of the people who have not contracted influenza after six months will go on to develop influenza by the end of the first year. (a) To the nearest whole number, how many people will be expected have avoided influenza by the end of the first year? [1] (b) A husband and wife both have the vaccination. What is the probability that both will avoid influenza in the first year? Please express your answer as a percentage to two decimal places [2] Question 10. The graph below shows the rainfall in millimetres per day for five days. Please calculate the average rainfall over the time period shown (answers correct within 3mm will be accepted) [1]
