Option 1: NSU Pharmacy Free seasonal flu shots are still available to all NSU employees at the NSU Pharmacy. Employees do not need to be covered under the NSU/ICUBA medical plan but if you are covered under the university s plan bring your Optum Rx prescription ID card. For more information regarding the flu vaccine, please call the NSU Pharmacy at Option 2: Community Walgreens Location For employees covered under the NSU/ICUBA medical plan you can obtain a flu shot at a participating Walgreens location (Take Care Clinics are excluded) using your Optum Rx prescription ID card. Walgreens accepts appointments and walk-ins for the flu shot. To view participating Walgreens locations, visit: Option 4: Physician s Office Visit Employees covered under the NSU/ICUBA medical plan may also obtain a flu shot from an in-network physician. The flu shot is covered at 100% but your healthcare provider may charge for an office visit to administer the vaccine.
2 February is Heart Awareness Month Did you know Heart disease is the #1 cause of death in Americans? Are you at risk for heart disease? About half of Americans have at least one of the following: high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or smoke. Other risk factors of heart disease include: diabetes, overweight (obesity), poor diet, physical inactivity and excessive alcohol use. ABC S Aspirin Use: ask your doctor if aspirin will reduce your risk for a heart attack. Blood Pressure Control: Exercise for 30 minutes per day; healthy eating; weight management; stress management; reduce alcohol intake; ask your doctor for advice on how to stay on track. Cholesterol Management: Healthy eating; eat foods with less LDL cholesterol; eat foods rich in Omega 3 s. Stroke Warning Signs (F.A.S.T.) Face dropping: does one side of the face droop or is it numb? Ask the person to smile. Arm weakness: is one arm weak or numb? Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward? Speech difficulty: is speech slurred, are they unable to speak, or are they hard to understand? Ask the person to repeat a simple sentence, like the sky is blue. Is the sentence repeated correctly? Time to call 9-1-1: if the person shows any of these symptoms, even if the symptoms go away call and get them to the hospital immediately. Warning signs of a heart attack: Chest pain/ discomfort Pain in arms, back, neck, jaw, or upper stomach Shortness of breath Nausea, lightheadedness and/or cold sweats Smoking Cessation: It s never too late to quit!
