1 Dear Sir or Madam, January 7, 2019 On behalf of the Statesman Capitol 10,000, I would like to formally notify you about the temporary street closures requested with the City of Austin. On Sunday, April 7, 2019 portions of Downtown s arterial thoroughfares will temporarily be closed at various times for the scheduled event. The commitment to service and community awareness has enabled the Austin American-Statesman and its many participants and sponsors raise money to help nonprofit organizations here in Austin. The production of this event enables us to financially assist these agencies within our community. The 42nd Annual Statesman Cap10K will benefit local Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM). In compliance with City Code for Temporary Closures for a Right-of-Way Event Chapter Notice of Proposed Closure and Signature Requirements, a notice of proposed closure shall be issued to all affected persons and neighborhood associations no later than the 90th day prior to the start of a right-of-way event, except that notice of a revised route under Subsection (D) (Documentation Requirements for Right-of-Way Events) must be issued no later than the 55th day prior to the start of the event. Chapter Definitions AFFECTED PERSON means the property owner, property manager or tenant of each property fronting on the portion of a public street to be closed. NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION means a neighborhood association registered with the City for a neighborhood whose boundaries either include the public street to be closed, or extend to a point within 1/2 of a mile of a public street to be closed. The notice must include a map of the closure area and copies of the event s promotional literature. This notice is issued to each affected person on streets adjacent to the proposed closure and neighborhood organizations whose boundaries include or about the proposed closure area. The Director will provide applicants with information identifying each Residential Area affected by an Event. Enclosed in this Notice of Proposed Closure packet is a map of the closure areas and the promotional literature for the right-of-way event. Additional public notice information can be found at the Statesman Cap10K web site The web site s Public Notice section provides expanded resources about the event and specific mobility instructions. Although you may not meet the requirements for an affected person described by the city, your proximity to the race course merits our expanded notification outreach. If you feel that this packet and the on-line resources are not complete for your planning purposes, please contact the race office immediately so I can continue to address your concerns. Respectfully, Christopher Thibert Austin American-Statesman Statesman Capitol 10,000 (512) cap10kroadclosures@statesman.com South Congress Avenue Austin, TX Page 1

2 Event Literature Statesman Capitol 10,000 The Statesman Capitol 10,000 is Texas largest 10K and the seventh largest in the nation, with over 21,000 participants in The race starts at the Ann Richards Bridge, which crosses over Lady Bird Lake (part of the Colorado River) and runs up to and by the Texas State Capitol Building. Bands playing live music line the race course, energizing the runners with upbeat entertainment as they wind their way along this scenic and at times, hilly, race route finishing back at Vic Mathias Shores next to Lady Bird Lake. In its 42nd year, the Cap10K is quite the crowd-pleaser. Many costumed participants run or walk the 6.2-mile course for good times while others run it for fast times and bragging rights. Free massages, food, water and sports drinks are provided for all the participants. Beginning in 1993 the Cap10K started donating proceeds from its event to local community non-profit organizations. The City of Austin Hike & Bike Trail received the first donation of $23,000. In 2006 the race made its largest donation of $201,452 to People s Community Clinic and has exceeded the $2.9 Million amount in total donations to Austin s community following the 2018 event. The 2019 race beneficiary is Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM). 3 Beneficiary 2019 At Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM) we provide access to affordable health care for Austin s low-income working musicians, with a focus on prevention and wellness. Many Austin musicians are self-employed and have no access to health insurance or basic health care. They often work multiple jobs and struggle to pay for food, clothing and shelter, with nothing left for health care. That s where we come in. By resolving challenges such as long-neglected teeth to hearing loss, heart problems and depression, HAAM and our partners improve and save musicians lives and enhance Austin s economy and quality of life. Austin is the Live Music Capital of the World, and we aim to keep it that way. We have helped over 4,900 musicians access over 56,000 healthcare appointments valued at over $44 million dollars since we began in These include routine dental work, doctor visits and prescriptions, psychiatric counseling sessions, eye exams, out-patient procedures, specialist referrals, hearing screenings and more. We re thrilled to be the beneficiary of the 42nd annual Statesman Capitol 10,000, said HAAM Executive Director Reenie Collins. I can t think of two more uniquely Austin icons than the Cap10K and HAAM. HAAM is the backbone of Austin music, and we need financial support from donors and the community to continue our important work. This partnership with the Statesman Cap 10K will enable HAAM to help keep the music alive and well in Austin, Texas! For its 42nd annual race on April 7, 2019, the Statesman Capitol 10,000, presented by Baylor Scott & White Health, has named Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM) as the beneficiary. Health Alliance for Austin Musicians will receive $1 from every Cap10K registration, which is now open at cap10k.com. When registering, race participants have the option to donate to the beneficiary, and the Statesman will match donations up to $10, South Congress Avenue Austin, TX Page 3
