The detection and diagnosis of diabetic retinopathy is done by retinal images. It is a type of disease that is categorized in to two stages like Non proliferative diabetic retinopathy and proliferative retinopathy. Diabetic retinopathy is a major disease that leads to blindness in most of the patients. In case of diabetic retinopathy blood vessels of retina gets ruptured and lipoprotein substances gets leaked out of the damaged blood vessels and are deposited in the intra retinal space. The part of optic nerve beneath these substances are barred from being excited by light rays and failed to produce any nerve impulse to brain and leads to partial loss of vision. These lipoprotein substances are yellowish in color and are termed as exudates. In this paper, we provide a feature-based method for early detection of exudates. The method is based on segmenting all objects that have contrast with the background including the exudates. The exudates could then be extracted after eliminating the other objects from the image. The proposed method uses various image processing techniques, for extracting the blood vessel tree based simple morphological operation. with a goal to detect hard exudates. The proposed method exhibits a sensitivity of 97.25% and specificity of 96.85%. Keywords: Diabetic retinopathy, medical images, exudates Introduction: The main objective of image processing is to scan the images of various size using submissive approaches[1-6]. Mostly image processing is referred to digital image processing but now-a days optical and analog image processing are also possible. And one more important feature is that computerized analysis of medical images is gaining more importance day by day. Various techniques are used for automatic detection of various diseases. The retina is the innermost and most important layer of eye, and its consists of many anatomical structures which can indicate various diseases like hyper tension, diabetes, and various diseases of eyes[7-9]. This paper is organized into following four categories. Category 1 gives an introduction[10-15]. Category 2 gives us the proposed methods explanation And Category 3 and Category 4 gives us the results and testing methodologies. Objectives The main objective is to detect hard exudates digital retinal. The detection of exudates is very difficult and an efficient image analysis program can detect the presence effectively. It uses various image processing techniques such as median filtering, image thresholding etc. Median Filtering Median filter will remove the noise that is present in the images. It is efficient in removing the noise from the images that has long tailed distribution. The pixels value is replaced by median of intensity[16-21]. And the main thing is that it has a capability of noise reduction with less blurring. Proposed Method 5061
2 Applied Mathematics Pre-processing technique is used for the retinal images in-order to correct the images from non-uniform brightness. The major problem that occurs in the images are noise and low contrast of images[22-26]. Green components always have high contrast and it can extract the information from the fundus images. We are following this green components in-order to extract the exudates. Initially we are pre-processing the images to remove the unwanted noises. Then we are applying the median filtering directly in to the input images[27-31]. Morphological Image Processing It is a collection of non-linear that is related to the shape of the images. It rely only on pixel values. And this can be applied to the grey scale images due to their light transferring materials are unknown. illumination component using iterative robust homographic surface fitting to compensate the non-uniform illumination in fundus images[32-36]. In detection of bright diabetic retinopathy areas from fundus images, applied adaptive local contrast enhancement to sub-image areas using the local mean and standard deviation of 16 intensities. Detection of normal and abnormal areas by using intensity property[37-40]. From the result abnormal areas, hard exudates were separated from soft exudates. The domain knowledge of retinal blood vessels were used to remove false artifacts. From the result, within a sliding window local standard variation image was calculated and threshold into coarse exudate areas. More accurate contours were acquired by thresholding difference between original image and morphologically reconstructed image. S used yellowish color and sharp edges to distinguish hard exudates from the fundus images[41-45]. Output Images Hard and Soft Exudates Image enhancement methods is used for normal retinal findings to estimate the 5062
