3 Insulin Pump Audit key findings and recommendations Key findings: More people starting pump treatment to lower glucose levels than reduce hypoglycaemia 62% are achieving pump treatment goals Pump users more likely to achieve all their treatment targets and, on average, have a lower HbA1c than non-pump users Recommendations: More people should be considered for pump treatment Ten-fold variation in pump use between specialist services should be investigated
4 NDA Complications and Mortality Key findings and recommendations Diabetes remains responsible for a large number of additional deaths Deaths in people with diabetes >80yrs more often due to CVD than general population Relative risk of CVD in people with diabetes is increasing People with diabetes account for one quarter to one third of hospital admissions for CVD Recommendation: Include assessment of CVD risk and prevention within every annual care planning review
