He was a heavy smoker. She does not smoke or drink alcohol or coffee. What do you tell her? 2. What might she do to help prevent Parkinson s Disease? 3. Can you give her any information to take home with her? DynaMed PDA Version (iphone) The PDA versions of DynaMed contains almost all of the content on the web; so it is quite rich. Produced by Skyscape.com, it is designed to update. Categories are the same as for the web site. Sections are accessed by a drop down menu. 4 Medical Calculators Medical calculators can be as simple as unit converters to make it easy to go between pounds to kilograms and so forth to highly complicated statistical calculators. There are a number of evidence based analysis calculators such as Number Needed to Treat, physiology calculators like Body Mass Index, drug dosage calculators, and so forth. There are a number of library resources that provide these calculators on the Library web site and PDA. Here we will cover three: Archimedes, Epocrates Online s MedCalc, and Epocrates Essentials PDA MedMath. Archimedes (iphone) Free with Dynamed Archimedes, which is free at Skyscape.com, is a collection of 76 handy medical calculators. It is very simple to use. See list of calculators in Archimedes on next page Type or scroll to find desired calculator and tap Tap the Main Index to switch to Table of Contents Exercises for Practice A) A 6 year old boy who is 70 pounds and 54 inches tall is recovering from sepsis. What should his caloric requirements be? (First you will need to compute his Basal Metabolic Rate). B) An 8 year old girl who is 60 pounds has moderate dehydration, estimated at 7% due to severe vomiting and diarrhea. What should her total fluids in ml per 24 hours be? Enter data Answer appears at bottom Scroll down for more info Above: What is the predicted peak flow of a 65 year old white female who is 5 2 tall?
