4 Our Founder ~ Dr. Luc Chaltin ( ) In 1965, Belgium-born Luc Chaltin was gravely ill with tuberculosis. He could not tolerate the treatment attempted by traditional medical doctors, and a well-respected classical homeopath told him that homeopathy could not cure tuberculosis. This life-threatening experience led him on his journey. As fate would have it, his search led him to a book that explained the importance of liver drainage, more commonly known as detoxification. He knew he had found his answer. Dr. Luc began using homeopathic remedies known to cleanse or "drain" the liver of toxins. As he continued his quest for health, he began to experiment by combining homeopathic liver "drainers" with homeopathic remedies known to support excretory function. He soon developed a combination formula and labeled it Drainer. His condition quickly improved. Within six months, there was no evidence of tuberculosis. Determined to continue his research and share his discovery with others, Dr. Luc sought additional learning opportunities. He earned a homeopathic diploma from the British Institute of Homeopathy and a degree in Naturopathy. He began to teach homeopathy, lecture, write books and publish articles for scientific journals. He firmly believed in educating others and "paying it forward". During his career in natural health, Dr. Luc assisted in the healing of thousands of people throughout the United States, Europe and the Caribbean. In 1987, Dr. Luc founded Newton Laboratories, Inc. and began to market an over-the-counter version of his Drainer as NEWTON s Detoxifier. He introduced Detoxifier, along with other unique formulations, to health food stores, holistic practitioners and retail customers. His formulations focus on the liver and kidneys while addressing symptoms of acute and chronic illness. The theory of detoxification for overcoming toxic, chronic afflictions remains at the forefront of holistic healing methods today. All NEWTON complexes continue to be developed using his unique methods. At Amsterdam s 1992 International Conference on AIDS, one of Dr. Luc s papers on auto-immune diseases was presented by noted scientific author, Christopher Bird. In 1993, Dr. Luc served on a special committee established to review grant applications for the Office of Alternative Medicine at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). He was invited to participate due to his knowledge of alternative medicine and [his] ability to bring rigorous scientific standards to the review of these types of applications. To aid in the promotion of homeopathy and the education of others, Dr. Luc established The American Academy of Clinical Homeopathy (AACH). Hundreds of health food store personnel and lay people have completed the AACH Certification in Basic Homeopathic Principles, and have gone on to promote healing through clinical homeopathic methods. Today, the AACH has a staff of educators, support personnel and graduates who are embracing and continuing Dr. Luc's vision for educating the masses in this valuable healing method. In 2004, at the age of 81, Dr. Luc entrusted the daily operations of NEWTON/AACH to Marge Roberts and a well-trained team of experts. 5 Welcome to Homeopathy Homeopathy, a complete system of healing with its own method of diagnosing and its own special remedies, was discovered by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann over 200 years ago. Homeopathics have no harmful side effects, may be safely used by everyone, including pets, and can be administered for both acute and chronic conditions. Homeopathics are made from minute amounts of plant, animal and mineral substances prepared by the process of dynamization. Dynamization is a process whereby a minute amount of substance is diluted, to as much as one part per ten billion and beyond, and succussed (vigorously shaken). Scientists have theorized that homeopathy may function similar to the way enzymes or hormones function in the body. Although they are found in similar miniscule amounts, they have very powerful effects. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), homeopathy is the second largest medical system for primary health care in the world. It is prevalent and widely accepted in many parts of the world including Europe, where over 100 million people use it on a regular basis. In America, during the early 1900s, the most prestigious medical schools in this country were homeopathic. These medical schools converted to allopathic medicine as fast-acting synthetic drugs were developed. Few knew then of the dangerous side effects inherent in synthetic pharmaceutical drugs. Today, because of mounting evidence regarding the dangers of drug toxicity and its effects on health, the safety and efficacy of homeopathy is resulting in its wider use and acceptance. There are approximately 6,000 homeopathic practitioners in Germany and 5,000 in France. In Britain, homeopathic hospitals and outpatient clinics are part of the national health system and homeopathy is recognized as a postgraduate specialty by virtue of an act of Parliament. The American Association of Homeopathic Pharmacists has estimated the sales of homeopathic drugs in the United States in 2003 between $300 million and $450 million, with a compound average growth rate of approximately 8% per year. People are also returning to homeopathy because they understand that in order to achieve health, one must discover the root cause of disease and not just treat the symptoms. Many Americans now understand that pharmaceutical drugs often interfere with the body s natural ability to heal itself. Suppressing, or merely removing symptoms, is a temporary solution at best. Addressing the whole person naturally is the long-term solution to modern states of disease. Homeopathy does this safely and effectively. Because homeopathy is safe, routine laboratory tests are not required (as with many pharmaceuticals) to monitor detrimental effects on the liver, kidneys and blood. Compare labels carefully. 8 Introduction to NEWTON PRO Complexes The use of NEWTON PRO complexes is ideal for the health professional who is unable to devote years of study to master the rules of classical homeopathy. In daily practice, approaching a client condition through classical homeopathy may require hours of time that may not be available in most practices. In European homeopathy (often referred to as clinical homeopathy), this time is greatly reduced. NEWTON PRO formulations are based on this clinical approach which allows you to assist your clients in a shorter period of time, with no decrease in efficacy. Certain formulations are listed as adjunctive complexes meaning that they should be utilized as an adjunct with other healing modalities. NEWTON PRO homeopathic complexes are natural, safe and easy to use. NEWTON PRO formulations allow any health professional, even those not wellversed in homeopathy, to integrate homeopathics into their daily practice. Begin with NEWTON PRO Drainer which is formulated for liver, kidney and colon functions allowing the body to naturally restore balance and efficiently eliminate toxins. For a general approach, especially when the cause of the problem is unclear or the symptoms are vague, NEWTON PRO Drainer is used to initiate the homeopathic protocol. Your client s response to NEWTON PRO Drainer, for instance, will provide insight into the real nature of the underlying problem. Often the health professional will find that many symptoms disappear or lessen once the body s balance and proper elimination are restored. This allows for the more serious symptoms to be clearly defined and a more specific remedy selected. We also recommend the continued use of NEWTON PRO Drainer in conjunction with other NEWTON complexes for the duration of the healing process. NEWTON PRO Inflammation~Fever complex is recommended where an infection is the suspected cause or when tissues are inflamed. After balance and proper elimination have been restored, any remaining symptoms should become more defined. This will allow for a more accurate and clear diagnosis. If the type of infection has been identified, consider adding the appropriate formulation such as NEWTON PRO Bacterial Infection, Intestinal Bacteria, Fungal Infection or Viral Infection, especially if the infection is believed to be intense or chronic. If a condition or symptom picture has been identified, the choice of the appropriate homeopathic complex is evident. Match the complex name to the identified condition, such as NEWTON PRO Gastritis~Ulcer for a client with gastritis and/or a stomach ulcer. Match the complex name to the identified symptoms, such as NEWTON PRO Gas~Indigestion for a client who complains of gas and/or indigestion. Match the complex indications to the identified condition or symptoms, such as NEWTON PRO Multi-System Support (Adjunctive complex formulated for symptoms associated with multi-system conditions such as Valley Fever, Gulf War Syndrome and environmental sensitivity.) for a client who is believed to be afflicted with Valley Fever or experiencing environmental sensitivity. 9 Administering NEWTON PRO Complexes Not all NEWTON PRO complexes are manufactured in liqiud and pellet form. Check the current order form or website information for current availability. Clients administer drops by mouth directly in the mouth as homeopathics are absorbed through mucous membranes; the number of drops need not be exact. If the alcohol taste is objectionable or for ease of administration, the drops may be diluted in pure water. If an alcohol-free liquid remedy is preferred, have your clients place the drops of homeopathy in a small amount of warm water and let stand for 10 minutes to allow the alcohol to evaporate. The remaining water/remedy mixture may then be placed in the mouth. Metal spoons or drinking containers may interfere with the effectiveness of the homeopathic remedy. In extreme cases where administration by mouth is impossible, dosage may be doubled, diluted with sufficient water and given via colonic irrigation. Pellets are another alcohol-free alternative or may better suit your client s needs. Clients dispense pellets into the bottle cap or a spoon and transfer directly into the mouth to dissolve. Pellets should be taken without being touched. The outermost layer of the pellet contains the active ingredients. Under age 2, pellets should be crushed/dissolved in pure water prior to administration. It is not necessary to dissolve the entire pellet as the remedy will transfer to the water from the outer layer and then remaining portion of pellet may be discarded. Using Complexes in Acute Conditions Acute conditions more typically appear in babies, children, adolescents and young adults in good health. These types of conditions are often due to a sudden accumulation of toxins in the body. Acute conditions may appear in the form of the common cold, a simple flu attack occurring periodically, sudden indigestion, occasional diarrhea, or a sudden skin rash or eczema. When the body s vitality is strong, the reaction can be forceful. Alarming symptoms such as fever, pain or inflammation accompany these conditions. Fever is the main symptom and is a sign of the body s healthy response. Three signs assist with recognition of an acute condition: (1) the person was healthy prior to the attack, (2) the onset of the condition is sudden and (3) the duration of symptoms is short and intense. NEWTON PRO complexes can be administered for acute situations, which may become balanced in a short period of time. The appropriate complex (e.g. Inflammation~Fever, Cold~Cough, Influenza) is given at the onset of symptoms and repeated several times during the day. A common usage mistake is not repeating the dose consistently and frequently. Even though symptoms may become less defined, the doses should still be continued, although less frequently. Consider continuing the complex for a dose or two after all symptoms have disappeared. In the case of fever, the dose is repeated more often when the fever is rising, even as often as every 10 to 20 minutes, and then decreased as the fever subsides. Other events such as pain/injury may also dictate frequent dosing ~ 7 ~

10 Using Complexes in Chronic Conditions A chronic condition is a situation that has existed for a significant period of time, from several months to many years. In the chronically ill person, several problems may occur simultaneously because several body systems are involved at the same time. A major sign of a chronic condition, even in the absence of pain, is fatigue or lack of energy for no clear reason. This situation can continue for years before any other symptoms appear. We believe that chronic conditions are a manifestation of an accumulation of toxins not adequately eliminated from the body. As in Chinese medicine, and with a modern understanding of biological functions, the liver is always implicated in chronic conditions. This is why NEWTON PRO Drainer should always be used first, or in conjunction with any other complex. Digestive problems often accompany chronic conditions. They may be so subtle as to be almost imperceptible, even to the person suffering with them. Key symptoms to watch for are gas, burping and bloating, especially after overindulging or when eating certain foods. One bowel movement a day, or less, is also a common sign of sluggish digestive and excretory functions, as is being underweight. Chronic digestive problems make a person more tired than would normally be expected, but is often dismissed as being a symptom of everyday life rather than a symptom of a chronic condition. If a person has a very strong digestive system, pain may be the only sign of a chronic condition, as with rheumatism, in which pain is the leading diagnostic symptom. In persons with strong digestion, the most difficult chronic condition to identify is arteriosclerosis, because there is no sign of impending trouble due to its painless nature, especially at the onset. Here, the only symptoms may be excessive weight, some breathing difficulties or unexplainable tiredness. Arteriosclerosis is dangerous because thrombosis may occur (even in the early stages) and cause heart attacks or strokes. Care should be taken to recommend an appropriate primary care provider in this case. Homeopathy, here, is used as an adjunctive therapy. In chronic, as well as in acute conditions, accumulated toxins are the underlying cause of the problem. With chronic conditions, the toxins role is significantly increased because much of the body, especially the connective tissue, is permeated by these toxins. It is a more difficult and longer process for the body to remove toxins from these tissues, because the metabolism has become compromised and weaker than in persons suffering from acute conditions. Overweight persons store high amounts of toxins in the adipose tissue. Lean persons, on the contrary, store the toxins in the blood. These toxins adversely affect the function of the glands, excretory organs and digestive organs. These toxins also affect enzymes, which underlie all metabolic activities, especially those of digestion. When these enzymes fail to function properly, there is fermentation of food in the intestines which creates inappropriate and excess metabolic by-products. As a consequence, aberrant metabolic activities begin. An improperly functioning metabolism causes fatigue and introduces more toxins into the system. Because of low enzymatic levels, the liver cannot detoxify the blood and remove metabolic wastes. The blood and tissues then become repositories for even more toxin accumulation, especially excess uric acid which is produced from the metabolism of uric acid and purines. Thus, a chronic condition creates negative feedback mechanisms that grow worse with time. ~ 8 ~

11 Excess uric acid accumulation ultimately results in two major conditions: rheumatism-arthritis and arteriosclerosis. The term rheumatism-arthritis as used here includes all conditions which cause pain and deformity in the muscles, joints and tendons, such as rheumatism, bursitis, arthritis, disc herniation, decalcification, osteoporosis and polyarthritis. It ranges from simple stiffness or pain in the knee or shoulder, to complete immobility of the damaged joints caused by rheumatoid arthritis. Eventually, the degeneration and demineralization becomes so great that the immune system turns against its own body and destroys the affected tissue (osteoporosis and/or rheumatoid arthritis). Arteriosclerosis starts when excess uric acid attacks the inner wall of the arteries causing inflammation. The body then uses cholesterol and calcium to patch and repair the damaged vessel walls; these repairs become the foci for a buildup of cholesterol that eventually hardens or blocks the arteries. The homeopathic protocol is geared toward the restoration of balance, so the body can heal and restore vital enzyme function. In addition, vitamins, minerals and trace-minerals, which work in conjunction with the metabolism, should also be incorporated. We suggest that a person battling these chronic conditions follow a diet that is low in protein and without chemical additives to help reduce the intake of toxins. Consider this approach for rheumatism, arthritis and as an adjunct for arteriosclerosis. We have found that homeopathy is a popular choice for hypertension, weak circulation, arterial blockages, rheumatism and arthritis. The homeopathic protocol for chronic conditions calls for the reduction of pain through the restoration of normal function. NEWTON PRO complexes can be used alone or as an adjunct to other medical therapies. Homeopathy is safe and will not interfere with other medicines or supplements. Certain formulations are listed as adjunctive complex for meaning that they should be utilized as an adjunct to other healing modalities. 12 Using NEWTON PRO Complexes In acute situations, the choice is simple because there is only one condition (e.g. a cold, flu or fever). NEWTON PRO Inflammation~Fever is not necessary if the flu or cold is accompanied by a low fever. NEWTON PRO Drainer and a specific complex (either Cold~Cough or Influenza in this example) are appropriate to address the symptomology. The process is more complicated in chronic conditions. Symptoms usually include exhaustion, pain, nervousness and digestive problems. Often the person experiences headaches and irritability and may suffer from hypotension, which accompanies the exhaustion; other symptoms may be present as well. Although it isn t harmful, it is recommended that no more than two additional complexes be used with NEWTON PRO Drainer at the same time. This allows you to maintain an awareness of the healing process. In establishing a homeopathic protocol, the order of importance of the different ailments must be established; address the most important first. When present, addressing the pain is almost always the highest priority for a suffering person. As pain diminishes, some of the other symptoms may subside as well. Not only will your client feel better, but the body will function better in the next stages of recovery. For example, if a person is suffering from arthritic pain, low blood pressure and digestive problems, the different symptoms and signs must be prioritized. Since the problems are related, addressing the blood pressure can also address the digestive issues. Likewise, attending to the digestive system can also deal with the low blood pressure. Because the arthritic pain is the most discomforting symptom, this should be addressed first by utilizing NEWTON PRO Arthritic~Joint Care daily over a long period, probably for several months. NEWTON PRO Drainer is used every evening as it is formulated for liver, kidney and colon functions so the body can naturally restore balance and efficiently eliminate toxins. At the same time, NEWTON PRO Digestive Care is taken when the symptoms of indigestion occur, as well as before meals, for a period of two to three weeks or until the symptoms subside. Due to this process, the underlying cause should become clearer and its identification should become more accurate. 13 Using NEWTON PRO & Single Remedies After utilizing NEWTON PRO complexes for a period of time, the health professional will become more familiar with homeopathic usage and it may be appropriate to dispense higher potency single remedies as an adjunct to the complex. Dr. Samuel Hahnemann taught that a protocol begins with a lower potency and proceeds to a higher one when the remedy exhibits improvement of symptoms. In common conditions, where the symptoms are less complex, the 10x or 15x potency is often sufficient. In chronic cases, it may be helpful to use higher potency single remedies in conjunction with the use of NEWTON PRO complexes. Higher potencies are believed to have greater stimulatory effects. When a fever accompanies a condition, consider adding NEWTON PRO Inflammation~Fever. If the fever stabilizes, but does not decrease, additional higher potency liver remedies such as Nux vomica, Bryonia or Chelidonium majus in 15x or 30c potency may be necessary to achieve the proper stimulatory effect. In chronic conditions, if a person s recovery is progressing too slowly, a higher potency dose of a single remedy may be helpful. Often, a higher potency of Bryonia or Nux vomica can increase the stimulatory effects allowing the body to naturally restore balance and efficiently eliminate toxins.
