1 Dear Friend, Thank you so much for hosting a Party with a Purpose on behalf of MANNA. In opening your doors and dining tables for Meals that Matter, you are helping provide nourishment to our critically-ill neighbors. Over the past 22 years, MANNA has met the needs of its clients with a philosophy of promoting a better life through better nutrition. With the help of caring individuals like you, MANNA has continued to extend of services to meet the needs of more people battling lifethreatening illnesses such as HIV/AIDS, cancer, renal disease, diabetes, heart disease and many more. By hosting a Meal that Matters, you show how food can bring people together for a great good and educate a new audience on how MANNA exemplifies this idea every day. The beauty of a Meal that Matters, is that it can be anything you want it to be! Whether it is a backyard BBQ for 50 people or an elegant dinner for 6, the means are uniquely yours, but the ultimate benefit will be our community. The further we can spread the knowledge of MANNA s mission, the more people in need we can reach. Thanks again, Richard Keaveney Chief Executive Officer

2 MANNA Mission Statement Especially for people at acute nutritional risk from a life-threatening illness, MANNA prepares and delivers delicious nourishing meals, and counsel, empowering those individuals to battle their illness and improve their quality of life. Did You Know This About MANNA? MANNA prepares and delivers meals free of charge to clients facing acute nutritional risk due to life-threatening illnesses including cancer, renal failure, diabetes, heart disease and HIV/AIDS. MANNA prepares and delivers about 70,000 meals each month and over 2,000 meals each day. MANNA s standard diet is heart-healthy with no added salt. MANNA was the first organization to move to the model of providing a comprehensive medically appropriate meal program that includes three meals a day, seven days a week along with education and counseling. The average time a client is on MANNA service is nine months. MANNA s Registered Dietitians provide nutritional assessment and counseling. MANNA serves the greater Philadelphia region including Burlington, Camden, Gloucester and Salem counties in New Jersey; as well as Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery and Philadelphia in Pennsylvania.

3 75 to 100 volunteers help prepare and deliver MANNA meals each day. This is approximately 97% of production. MANNA s program has expanded to include 11 diet modifications options to address the unique needs of each client and the co-conditions they experience. o Carbohydrate-controlled (diabetic) o Low Lactose o No Beef o Renal diet o Small portion, mechanical soft o Pureed o Low in fiber, residue & spice o No pork o No seafood o High protein/high calorie o Child-friendly/small portions MANNA has a new service called Positively Nutritious. For newly diagnosed HIV/AIDS patients, learning how to take care of their bodies not only medically but nutritionally becomes the primary goal with treatment. Positively Nutritious is a six month set of classes designed to help individuals who have been newly diagnosed with HIV/AIDS within the past year. The classes focus on teaching participants how to improve their nourishment through educational classes and private medical nutrition therapy sessions with MANNA s registered dietitians. All students will receive six months of MANNA s free meals program.
