1 April 01, :00 AM - 2:30 PM Ageism and the Foster Care System, Part I Trainer: Natalie Thoreson To bring about opportunities for success for those living in the child welfare system, young people and adults need to work together as partners. Both youth and adults have much to offer in this partnership. One of the greatest challenges to success in sustaining effective youth/adult partnerships is the impact of ageism and adultism on our interactions with one another. During this interactive training, participants will explore the impacts of institutional, individual, and societal ageism as it relates to the overall wellbeing and success of youth in care. We will outline best practices to support long term success for clients, and consider practices for positive community transformation through individual, cultural, and institutional means. Through experiential exercises, large and small group dialogue, lecture, and personal reflection, attendees will work to unearth unconscious attitudes and behaviors, and challenge how these ideas influence our connections with the young people we support. Attendees will also develop a working understanding of oppression theory and fundamental concepts needed to discuss and challenge systems of ageism and adultism that negatively impact the experiences of the youth whom we serve. Natalie J. Thoreson, M.Ed.: A founder and Sr. Consultant at invision Consulting, Natalie has designed and facilitated social justice, anti oppression and liberation training for educators, youth, social workers and community activists for over a decade. Natalie s passion, talent, and uncanny ability to shape a safe, creative and productive learning environment are evident in her design and facilitation of workshops on oppression, interdependent communities, and supporting inclusive spaces. Natalie's workshops on cultural humility have become an incredibly valuable component of trainings for staff and volunteers at dozens of agencies throughout the state. Natalie challenges participants to think critically about their own backgrounds and biases, and dissects concepts like the culture of oppression, prejudice, and stereotypes in a way that's accessible and just "clicks" for people. Around a topic that can often leave participants feeling raw and wounded, she instead consistently creates an environment of trust, humor, and fun that inspires and receives rave reviews from our groups. This training counts as credit for the BBS requirement of training in Aging and Long Term Care for 5 hours. This course meets the qualifications for five (5) BBS CEUs for LCSWs and MFTs as required April 03, :00 AM - 12:00 PM Career and Workforce Development with Male Youth of Color Trainer: Jon Gilgoff and Michael Lee Please register for these trainings by sending an to: trainings@fredfinch.org 1

Many clients with these behaviors meet the criteria for the diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). Originally, DBT was applied to and researched with adults and then later, used as an intervention with teenagers. DBT is considered one of the most intense out patient interventions where clients attend a skills class, receive homework, and can interact out with their therapist outside of the clinical hour. It is a balance of clinical applications and clinical connection to treat teens in emotional crisis and who are also experiencing the developmental challenges of preadulthood. This workshop will focus on providing a clear presentation on the skills DBT teaches to help clients live and improve the quality of their lives. Please register for these trainings by sending an to: trainings@fredfinch.org 8

This course meets the qualifications for four (4) BBS CEUs for LCSWs and MFTs as required April 29, :30 AM - 3:30 PM Trauma and Commercial Sexual Exploitation: A Prevention-Focused, Trauma-Informed Approach Trainer: Gabriella Grant Child sexual exploitation is a dynamic that almost always involves child sexual abuse in the home leading to further sexual abuse and exploitation outside the home as well as aspects of domestic violence and the strategic use of substances, money, housing and affection. Given the complexity, it is essential to be trauma informed and to recognize the impact of trauma on the brain. Victims of CSE themselves ask for interventions that are "soft" and "nonjudgmental." This training helps professionals understand the multiple layers of trauma and how to create safe and collaborative practices to replace the cycle of exploitation and dominance experienced by CSE victims. No prior training required. All staff levels welcome. Survivor voices encouraged.
