1 President s Message Summer is here and along with it comes the heat, storms and activities with families and friends. We are halfway through the year and our chapter s Christmas party is all set thanks to George Z. Tickets are on sale. We have begun to plan our chapter picnic which will be held on September 27th at Herschel King Park. Karl G has stocked up the supply of chapter ride shirts and hats so if you need any contact Karl. This month there is a dinner ride planned for the 17th to Ponce Inlet. Our chapter welcomed two new members last month with a few more possible in the near future, if you know of anyone let s get them on board. Summer is here enjoy and Ride with Pride. Moody Blvd., Bldg #3, Bunnell, FL (Next meeting Feb 12 th ) Web Page: ****** Our Website has been submitted in the Blue Knight International website of the year competition. ****** Page 1 June Membership Meeting Troy Wingerter, the young man who won our annual scholarship attended this meeting with members of his family. He thanked the club personally and told us that he would be pursuing a degree in criminal justice. He has also enlisted in the Air Force Reserve. Good Luck Troy! Our club will be assisting the Celico family with the Sgt Frank Celico Memorial Foundation Fun Run, which has been scheduled for October 25 th, 2014, more details will follow. Our club is also involved with organizing the 9/11 ride in partnership with the Red Knights, Knights of the Inferno, and others. VP Bill Gallagher is attending the meetings. We will need volunteers to help with t-shirt sales, and parking. Club discussion on the wear of white long sleeve shirts for certain special events was postponed until the August meeting. The club picnic has been scheduled for September 27, 2014, and will be at Herschel King Park, details to follow. The club has had some requests to induct another honorary member. Unfortunately, at this time, based on BK established rules, our membership total does not provide for another slot. If we had three more members we d have another honorary member position open up. The subject of honorary members brought the board to review the by-laws and remind our honorary members that they must attend a minimum of (6) regular meetings in a calendar year and must participate in all major fundraisers sponsored by the Chapter. (Exemption from meeting attendance or participation in the Chapter fund-

2 raisers will be reviewed by the Board of Directors upon request for exemption by the member.) The Board will conduct an annual review prior to renewal of membership. Chaplain s Corner Breakfast Rides Every Tuesday 12 to 15 members or more show up at Denny s Restaurant, 7 Kings Way, Palm Coast, for some breakfast, camaraderie and about a 100 mile ride. Road Captain Jack Pierce leads us on varying routes. QM Karl Grunewald Reminder: We have a new selection of Black long sleeve and short sleeve shirts. Gray ride shirts and ladies Pink short-sleeve and long sleeve shirts. QM Karl Last Month s Rides / Events On June 27, 2014, a small contingent of BK FL XXII members rode to the Santa Maria Del Mar Catholic Church in Flagler Beach, to pay respects to the Dolce Family in memory of Tony s loving mother. You are encouraged to make suggestions for any rides you d like to the club to consider. Other Upcoming Rides /Events BK Chapters 21 & 33 are organizing a multi chapter ride on August 3, Be at the restaurant prior to 1600 for diner and then the cruise. All chapters should make it home before darkness. Tickets for the dinner cruise must be bought individually as soon as possible as they will sell out. 4 Be Organized Pick a place to meet up before the ride. You ll be able to decide where your stops will be, which routes to take, and you can exchange cell phone numbers. Be Smart Just because you re with a group, doesn t mean you should change the way you make safe decisions. Never ride faster than what makes you comfortable and never sacrifice your personal safety. Always Communicate Make sure everyone knows the proper hand signals. Trust Experience Seasoned riders should always be in the front and back of the group. Put novice riders near the experienced ones, so that the pace can be adjusted to where everyone is comfortable. Leave Room Make sure that there s at least a 2-second cushion in front and behind you at all times. To keep your group tighter, consider staggering your formation. Always Adapt If you find that visibility decreases, or you are heading into a series of tight curves, drop back to a single file formation. This allows everyone the space cushion they need. Buddy System If you have a large group of riders, consider splitting into smaller packs of 5 to 7 motorcycles. It will be easier to keep everyone on track and make sure that no one is left behind. 6 Health Insurance Information That May or May Not Pertain To You. Guys and Ladies, This you may or may not know, but it is important that you read it for future reference. Here is a copy of an article written in the NYC Retired Lieutenants Association. Newsletter of June 14th It is important that all members know this information since it can avoid problems with Medicare, GHI or any secondary insurance, and their deductibles. I suggest that we all make a small copy and keep one in our wallets for future reference. I just had a problem after being asked to pay my deductible up front.
