4 VISION By 2023 Scouting will be the world s leading educational youth movement, enabling 100 million young people to be active citizens creating positive change in their communities and in the world based on shared values.

5 Our challenge is for the Queensland Branch to reach 13,000 young people by 2020.

6 SKILLS OF SCOUTING Skills have been learned Values have been established Good deeds have been done Lives have been enriched Lives have been saved

7 DO WE SELL THESE EFFORTS IN THE COMMUNITY WELL ENOUGH?

8 UNITY Changes in Queensland in recent years as a consequence of: Social, economic and political shifts Scouts Australia s direction

9 Progress in the last three years to unify Queensland Branch but still work to be done in strengthening the bonds between Groups, Districts, Regions and Branch. WE ARE ONE not them and us!

10 Efforts are being made to: Increase the opportunities for people to come together - e.g. this conference Give youth empowered voices Develop common ideas and projects Understand and value differences and build from them Implementation of the Branch Strategic Plan Australia s leading educational youth movement

11 IMPACT Privileged position to bring positive change to Queensland: Each family Each neighbourhood Each city, whether urban or rural

12 MORE WORK NEEDED FOR OUR: School communities Groups striving to all have five sections Groups retaining members Groups to have a minimum of 60 members to be sustainable Ethnic and Indigenous communities

13 Establish Scouting with refugees: Permanent residency Asylum seekers (temporary)

14 WHAT ARE YOU PLANNING TO ACHIEVE IN THIS AREA OVER THE NEXT 18 MONTHS?

15 Organisation Societies are wanting transparency, good governance, collaboration and closer involvement in decision making, flexibility, innovation, effectiveness and swift delivery. Same demands from the different levels of our organisation.

16 Improve the ways we organise ourselves and how we operate.

17 Coming future we want the movement to: Shape positive changes by transforming the lives of individuals and communities A collective adventure Impact the lives of millions of young people The future of their communities And the world at large

18 A collective adventure to which each is called regardless of age, origin, creed or gender.

19 Improving transparency and cooperation in Scouting Had need to review procedures, policies and regulations in an effort to make our Branch more effective and responsive to your needs. Hopefully the changes have laid good foundations for the future. Have no secrets.

20 Some of those changes include: Implementation of National policies Aligning QBSI to match these polices Full update of QBSI Youth Program Review consultation meetings and feedback

21 Some of those changes (cont.) Branch Strategic Plan impact on 2020 Operational Plan Appointment of General Manager Branch Support Office restructure Child Protection Policy mandatory reporting and zero tolerance New Grievance and Complaints procedures All Commissioner role vacancies advertised

Re-emphasis on Adults in Scouting Policy progressive changes Changes in the grant process and applications to Queensland Scout Foundation Major Activities portfolio Youth Council and Youth Forums reintroduced Impact from changes to e-learning plus additions Changes in Adult Training and SAIT Appointment of two Region Development & Support Officers (a third from April 2016)

23 Some of those changes (cont.) Reviewed the boundaries of all Regions Split Brisbane South Region into two Regions Three Regions were merged in Western Queensland Currently Capricorn Region is under review.

24 Youth Program Review could lead to changes in the: Promise and Law Adult Training and Development Program Youth Program for all sections Legislative requirements impact our Child Protection Policy and zero tolerance policy

25 Continual petty conflict impacts us all General Manager s team working on property leases, compliance with all legislations, facilities are being reviewed in line with Council requirements

26 IMPROVING MARKETING Improve our marketing - closely tied to recruitment, reputation and image

27 IMPROVING RECTUITMENT AND RETENTION Retention is the main issue - lose 18-20% per year To date 8986 Are our Groups delivering what we promise? Are your Leaders trained?

28 SCOUTING Focus on what unites us: Finest organisation for building character Teaches young people to meet and overcome challenges Cheerfully serve others Live lives based on the principles of the Scout Promise and Law
