We are an AMA Chartered club and are based at a Metro Park called Peeler Park. We fly a wide range of RC aircraft ranging from small park flyers, to giant scale aerobatic and scale planes including turbine jets. 3 September Meeting Recap Date: 20 September 2017 Location: Our Peeler Park flying field, Madison TN Members Present: 10 Presiding: Tom Bible, President Opening Remarks: Meeting called to order at 6:35 pm. Tom welcomed and thanked everyone for coming out and thanked the chef for preparing the club provided dinner. Tom asked for a moment of silence for reflection and contemplation of our long time MCA member and friend Kenny Skelton (recently deceased). Tom stated that he received a nice "Thank You" card from Kenny's widow for the flower arrangement sent by the club. Motion made and carried to accept the club minutes report from August, Treasurers Report: Hayes Graf reported our current club fund balance to be $5, with our current 2017 membership role totaling 48 members. Hayes stated that any new member joining our club from now until the first of the year would be credited with full club membership through The PayPal option for renewal membership on our club web-site was discussed along with clarification of MCA membership requirements for new members which are; Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) membership, Metro Park Permit and voting majority approval. Motion made and carried to accept the Treasurers Report. Old Business: The battery charging station has been redesigned and partially reworked. It is now operational without the need of purchasing expensive and hard to maintain lead acid batteries. Instead there are two separate 30 amp power supplies installed with a separate switch for each charging station. This much improved setup now provides battery charging capability and there are plans to install three more power supplies with separate control switches for each, giving a total of 5 independent battery charging ports on the station with each having separate 30 amp power supplies. 4 September Meeting Recap Cont. New Business: Tom reminded everyone that the 2018 club Officer position elections will be held during our next scheduled club meeting in October. Candidates for the positions of Club President, Club Vice-President, Club Treasurer, Club Secretary and Club Safety Officer are open for nominations to be accepted during the October meeting prior to the elections, or via prior to the meeting. Tom asked for anyone planning on nominating someone for one of the positions to make sure that the individual is aware of, and approves of the nomination. Charles Waterston has been temporarily filling in the media position vacated by Kris Tanner. Charles reminded everyone that a volunteer is needed to step up to take over the maintenance of the Club web-site and preparation of the monthly Club Newsletter. Volunteers to help with the upcoming Scot Perry Air Academy for youth are needed. Tom expressed the importance of this MTRCCA (Middle Tennessee R/C Clubs Association) conducted event, that is hosted by the Beechcraft Heritage Museum in Tullahoma TN. The hours for the Air Academy will be from 9:30 until 3:30 pm each day beginning on the morning of the 3rd of October and ending on the afternoon of the 5th, with lunch being provided each day by the museum. Student and youth leader introductions will begin around 9 am on the morning of the 3rd of October in the main lobby of the museum. Anyone who can help on any of the scheduled days, by donating their time and expertise to this worthy cause, is asked to contact either Tom Bible, Dave Palmer or Dick Tonan. Tom emphasized that a lot of new ideas and changes are planned for these and future Air Academy classes that will provide each kid something tangible to take home with them, as well as lots of good lasting memories and knowledge. Current plans call for each student, with the aid of an instructor, to be building, balancing, trimming out and flying a "Delta Dart" glider instead of only participating in a team effort complex ARF (almost ready to fly) aircraft build as previous Air Academy classes have accomplished. The last day of the Air Academy (the 5th of October) will have the students each getting some "buddy-box hands on stick time" using the nitro powered models completed in past years and/or an electric powered trainer plane.

5 September Meeting Recap Cont. Announcements: Dave Palmer and John Forehand gave reports of the recent MTRCCA Fall flyin recently held at the Dickson airport. This AMA sanctioned event was very successful, safely conducted and enjoyable for participants and spectators alike. Fifty five pilots registered for the event which netted approx. $875 and these profits should again be divided equally among the area clubs. We were honored to have in attendance Bob Brogdon, the District 5 AMA Vice President. Everyone liked the venue and the Dickson officials invited us back in the future. Our plans are to have the event at the same location next year with only a few small changes to be considered. The MTRCCA needs continuing volunteer support from each club in order to successfully plan and implement various enjoyable events that benefit all club members and the surrounding communities. Clyde Fussell gave an update of the condition of Ron Adams, who was severely burned when his home caught fire several weeks ago. Ron is improving after undergoing some major skin grafts that required him receiving 12 units of blood, but is still in serious condition fighting the complication of pneumonia. (Additional update after the meeting: Ron is out of intensive care and in rehab now. He is up walking and taking breathing treatments. Hopefully he is well on the way to getting much better, and he might be able to go home in a couple of weeks) Motion made and approved to send a fruit basket when it can be accepted. Tom asked that we continue to keep Ron, J.W. Plummer and John Bryant in our prayers. Upcoming Events: Motion made and approved to conduct a club "Member Appreciation Fall Fly-in" to be held on the 21st of October. Discussion ensued on possible ways to encourage participation including proposals for a luncheon plus various contests and prizes. The MTRCCA supported Scot Perry Air Academy for Youth, hosted by the Beechcraft Museum in Tullahoma, TN. is looking to expand this highly successful program to include two separate classes for interested young people. This will include the previously scheduled fall class of October 3-5, plus a new one to be started in June of Tom again gave testimony to the personal satisfaction that one gets from helping interested youth cultivate an interest in model and general aviation. The MTRCCA Fall Swap Meet, scheduled for the 4th of November at the Antioch United Methodist Church, is in need of volunteers to help set up the area on November 3rd and to help man the areas of Registration and concessions so that periodic relief can be had by all participating in helping out. Closing Remarks: Motion made and carried for the club to purchase 2 (two) tables for the November Swap Meet. Next Meeting: Scheduled for October 17, 2017 at 6:30 PM at Ryan's Steakhouse and Buffet, 2151 Gallatin Pike N, Madison TN. 7 New Training Program a Success Fred Kurszewski Fred is our newest graduate to Solo using our new Training Program. Fred completed the full course on 8/26/17 and then today (8/27/17) spent the entire morning flying his well disguised Apprentice, which we now call the FREDINSTEIN, successfully with no problems, and not even one hard landing. 8 Membership Appreciation Day The Fall Fun Fly was set as a Membership Appreciation day at the Club meeting last Tuesday. set for October 21, It is To show the Club s appreciation for its members, there will be a FREE drawing for club members for three Gift Certificates from Family Hobbies in Smyrna in the amounts of 1 St $50.00, 2 nd $30.00, and 3 rd $ When you check in for the Fun Fly you will be given one ticket for the drawing. You can t purchase anymore. But for each of the fun fly events you enter, you will also be given a ticket. Fly all three of the no cost to enter events, and you will have four chances for the drawing. The drawing is only for club members. Of course lunch is also free to all members, $5.00 to nonmembers. The events are for all aircraft, gliders, 3D, scale, sport, quads, you name it. If it flies it s welcome. These events are free to club members, $2.00 per event for non-members. As usual, no prizes, except a free lunch on some future Old Farts Day at the field. The first will be an encore of the timed flight event. You take off and have to land as close to two minutes as you can only problem is you can t use any kind of clock or timer. Also, I will ask you some questions, and give you some things to remember during your flight. Closest to the two minutes is the winner either over or under. Second will be the Spot Landing contest. The closest to the mark on the runway wins. As before, there will be a point in your landing pattern where you will have to cut your engine/motor and dead stick the landing. For helicopters we will have them do an autorotation to the spot, and for quads we ll have a hangar they will have to fly into and land on the spot. The gliders will have their mark in the grass. Third will be the oft requested Limbo event. Winner is the one that goes the lowest without touching the ground either before the limbo streamer or at least 10 feet after. Helicopters and quads limbo will be vertical rather than horizontal. As always open flying is available anytime except during the Limbo event. The whole idea is come out and enjoy the field, the club, the members and RC flying. See you there, John Forehand

9 Remembering Kenny Skelton ( Sept 26, 1933 Aug 28, 2017) Kenny was a founding member of our club the Music City Aviators. He was President for many years and was very active in club activities until his retirement. Kenny vigorously promoted our hobby and trained dozens of pilots through out his life. Due to failing health, Kenny was not able to come to the field very often these past months. Our prayers go out to his wife and family and his many friends. Below are some photos of Kenny.
