3 Chairman s Message Dear friends of MAA Medicare, MAA Medicare Charitable Foundation ( the Foundation ) started its Kidney Charity Fund 20 years ago, in November Since then, we have provided two decades of high quality medical hemodialysis care, to thousands of needy kidney patients throughout Malaysia. Back in 1994, we realized that many kidney patients were trapped in the Kidney Disease Dilemma. These people were not civil servants, and did not enjoy priority access to hemodialysis treatment in Government Hospitals; these people were too poor to pay for treatment at private medical clinics; and yet, these people were not poor enough to be treated at the National Kidney Foundation. These people were really in a dilemma too poor, but not poor enough. At the Foundation, we recognized the dilemma of needy patients, who desperately needed dialysis treatment, at a price which they could afford. Starting from a single centre, equipped with 6 hemodialysis machines, providing highly subsidized treatment to a small group of patients, MAA Medicare started operation on Jalan Ipoh in Kuala Lumpur, in Today, 20 years later, MAA Medicare has grown and provides quality treatment for 850 patients, at 12 centres, nationwide. Where once there was only darkness, today these patients live a dignified and fulfilling life. Our 20 year life has not been without incident. Since 2010, following much stricter guidelines introduced by the Ministry of Health, we have had to relocate and upgrade all our facilities nationwide, at substantial cost. But it was for the better, for we are now better equipped with advance medical equipment, and facilities, which are disabled friendly. Last December, the major floods hit a large part of the northern states of Peninsular Malaysia. Thankfully our Kota Bahru centre hailed the storm, shutting down for only five days. Treatment for our 64 patients was not interrupted, for we arranged to relocate their dialysis service needs, to various other centres nearby. At our expense, we even flew a few patients down to our Johor Baru centres for treatment. In 2014, we had relocated our Mentakab centre, which was fortunately located on higher ground, enabling us to still operate, throughout the flood adversity, to provide treatment to patients from other centres around Mentakab and Temerloh. All our efforts would not have been made possible, without the assistance of scores of people; our donors, suppliers and friends, who were behind us throughout this catastrophe. For all your efforts, we congratulate and thank you. I would also like to express my sincere appreciation, to all our donors and sponsors, for their continued support to our cause. In 2014, we raised RM4.0 million in donations, of which RM2.7 million (68%) was utilized to subsidize the various medical programs of the Foundation, as set out in page 7 of this Annual Report. As usual, I am proud to note that our administrative costs are well within control, at a conservative 4% of total revenue. Our Patients Welfare Fund (PWF) program, refer to page 11 of this Annual Report, continued to provide free transport, groceries, home visits, extra treatments and medications to some 80 extremely poor patients. Our Kids@Medicare program, refer to page 12 of this Annual Report, has for the 5th year running, supported 250 school-going children of our patients, with back-toschool supplies and shoe vouchers. We thank ROCHE Malaysia and Bata Malaysia for their joint partnerships. During the year, we have also had the honour of having His Excellency Tun Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud, the Governor of Sarawak, and YB Dato Mah Siew Keong, Minister in the Prime Minister s department, officiate our upgraded centres in Kuching and Teluk Intan, respectively. Our Mission, at the Foundation, is to assist the needy people of Malaysia, who are suffering from Chronic Diseases, to attain timely access to High Quality Medical Treatment. With this Mission in mind, the Board of Trustees of the Foundation, will continue to serve the community we care for, and will strive to extend our reach to the deserving and needy people of our country. We have done much and we pledge to do more, with your continuous support. 7 Programmes Events Drink an EXTRA GLASS of water! World Kidney Day Celebrated in the month of March, MAA Medicare invited everyone to #Drink-A-Glass- Of-Water a symbolic gesture to remind everyone that kidneys are vital organs and should be taken care of. The awareness activity took place in offices and universities. Over 250 school going children of our patients have been assisted each year with back to school necessities, shoes and book vouchers. CARE (Care And Respect the Environment) Jazzercise in support Constant reminders on energy savings and recycling throughout the dialysis centers. Medical waste is disposed off effectively and efficiently. Jazzercise Malaysia raised RM 115,000 via the Sweat2Smiles 2014 event. A 12-seater van was purchased to provide FREE transport to deservimg patients in the Klang Valley

8 News - Centers Opening Ceremony - Kuching News - Centers Opening Ceremony - Teluk Intan Recently officiated by His Excellency Tun Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud, the center currently cares for 174 patients with 30 machines. Y.B. Dato Mah Siew Keong ( Minister in the PM s dept and MP of Teluk Intan) officiated the newly relocated Teluk Intan center. Present was Prof. Emeritus Datin Dr. Norella Kong, member Board of Trustee. Relocation of Mentakab Center The previous Mentakab centre has been moved to a new premise at Jalan Angsana, Taman Rimba. The new home currently cares for 34 patients with 12 machines

9 In November 2014, our Kota Bahru dialysis center was hit by the flood. Many came forth to support in cash and kind. On behalf of our 65 patients and staff, we thank you.
