2 Page 2 PRESIDENT S MESSAGE THE PRESIDENT S UNION Dinner was at 7:00 p.m. Prosecco was served as an aperitif by a black tied waiter. Eleven men of different sizes and shapes gathered in a few circles discussing various topics of the day while a master chef in the kitchen was plating the first course. They all had something in common. They were all Presidents. On April 26, 2010 the President of the University of Windsor, Dr. Alan Wildeman invited the Presidents of each Italian club and CIBPA at his home for dinner. It was an excellent show of support for the Italian community. Dr. Alan Wildeman organized the gathering to affirm his support to the Italian community and to the Italian language studies program. Dr. Cecile Houston Dean Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and Mr. John Bergholz the University of Windsor's Vice- President, University Advancement, assisted in a very fruitful discussion on how we can secure a first time achievement for the University of Windsor: the establishment of a Chair for the Italian studies program. There is no program at the University of Windsor at this time with an established Chair. We, as Italians, will succeed. In doing so, Italian students will no longer be threatened, but rather offered permanently for generations to come. The Presidents with the assistance of the University of Windsor will coordinate a plan of action with the Italian Studies Fundraising Committee chaired by Ralph Meo to raise the balance of funds with those already raised within our Italian community and the support of the Casa Marca Foundation, Udine, Italy. The dinner was grand but the occasion grander marking the union of Presidents partnering with the University to entrench our language and culture for our children and future generations. We are half way there. We have raised $1.5 million of the $3 million necessary to secure our goal. We will keep you advised of all further developments as they arise. Please continue to support the forthcoming events organized with a great deal of effort, all intended to support this worthy cause. Stay tuned John P. Corrent, President GUEST SPEAKER This months Guest Speaker is Mr. John Strasser, President of St. Clair College, and Fred Sorrell, Vice President of College Advancement. Their presentation will be the changes and future growth initiatives to advance post secondary education at the College level in Windsor and Essex County. SPIRIT RAFFLE Thank you to everyone for making our Spirit Raffle a continued success. The generous donations from the April meeting raised $374. Thank you once again to Amalia Maurizio for the bottle of wine and the Gala Committee for providing the ticket to the Awards of Excellence Banquet. Congratulations to Frank Datillo who won the April raffle. This month, Livio Pullo has generously donated four Terrace Seats for the July 10th Tiger Game versus the Twins, at Comerica Park. In addition, these tickets include a parking pass for the Tiger Garage. The cost of the tickets will be $2.00 each or three for only $5.00. Proceeds go towards CIBPA Charitable. You are not going to want to miss out on this raffle. For those of you interested in donating a prize, so we may continue this charitable endeavor, please notify Steven Del Duca before the middle of each month so that we can include the description of the prize and make mention of it in the newsletter. We encourage our Members to get involved with the organization of the Association. The Board can use persons that are committed to doing some work. If you want to have a say or get involved in the way the organization is operated, please put your name forward. Nominations will be accepted at the May Meeting and closing at the June Meeting. Nominator, nominee and endorsers will be required to fill out a Board of Directors Nomination Form. COMMUNITY SERVICE Egizio (Jimmy) Ruggiero TAKE THE BUS There will be a Limo Bus leaving the Caboto Club with a pick-up at Ciociaro Club to the Roma Club in Leamington. Cost is $15 / person. There is only room for the first paid 20 persons (Minimum 18 persons) on a first come basis Limo Bus will leave Caboto Club 5:00 pm sharp and stop at the Ciociaro Club at 5:15 pm Limo Bus leaves Roma Club between 9:30 10:30 pm at the latest depending on consensus.
