1 Special points of interest: October Messages Fall Banquet 2018 Fair Photos Treatment Calendar for October Volume 15, Issue 173 Presidents Message October 2018 This is a heads-up to anyone wishing to attend the fall banquet there is a closing date Oct. 8th to RSVP this event, this is a free to all LCBA members anyone who is not a member can pay the cover charge for the meal and still attend, but everyone must RSVP, pertinent information is elsewhere in this News Letter. This is a great time and fun event for all who attend, we are still looking for some quality auction items, I have it by a good report that there will be some live animals at this auction this year, I know a guy?? For all practical purposes beekeeping season is over and it is time put the finishing touches on winter prep, getter done or pay the price next season. 2 Volume 15, Issue 173 Page 2 LCBA October Banquet Friday, October 12, 2018 at Life Church in Grafton 1033 Elm Street Grafton, OH pm Social Time 6:30 pm Dinner Last name A-L - bring a dessert Last name M Z - bring an appetizer 8:00 Auction Life Church in Grafton The October LCBA members meeting is the Fall Banquet on Friday, October 12, which is a catered event. There will be a sign-up sheet at the September members meeting and all RSVP's must be received by October 8. There is no charge for this event. Members who sign up for the event but do not show will be billed $18 per meal to cover the catering cost. Members are asked to bring an appetizer or dessert. Afterwards LCBA will hold an auction of new or gently used, donated items by our members for LCBA fundraising. Please look around your home and consider putting together a gift basket or donating items. Tickets to upcoming events are greatly appreciated. All items will be auctioned off to the highest bidder.

Oct 8 Oct 12 All RSVP s are due for Fall banquet Fall banquet will be Friday at Life Church Message from New Beekeeper When I decided to get into beekeeping I knew absolutely nothing about bees. It was a thought that I shared with my wife who also said she had been thinking of it. We decided to jump in head first. I was told the book Beekeeping for Dummies would be a great place to start so I read it cover to cover. I got a small understanding that book but I've always been better with hands on learning. My wife and I attended the beginner s beekeeping class in Grafton in March of This is where everything really stated to come together. I was able to see, touch, and be shown what things are and how they work. The class was, in my opinion the right size, it was small enough that questions could be asked and answered and we could be close enough to really see what was being discussed. There were a few things that were taught that didn't match up with the beekeeping for dummies book which I later learned the saying ask 10 beekeepers and get 15 different answers. I think it was helpful that the all the instructors were beekeepers themselves and local. Everyone was very friendly and willing to take extra time as needed to answer questions. I appreciated that the classes were shorter over multiple days. It made it easier to take it all in verses one all day class. It was nice out in the lobby there were books for sale and catalogs from multiple local companies for supplies. It amazes me how small the community (beekeeping) really is and how willing everyone seemed to help whenever needed. All-and-all I think it was a great class. I would gladly recommend it to anyone even thinking about getting into beekeeping. Adam Beck 2016 Fall Banquet

The BUZZZZ Advertising Fees Members can place classified ads a maximum of four lines (approximately 3/4 inch by 3¾ quarter inch) for free on a one time basis. If the same ads are placed for more than a month, there will be a fee for placing the ads. There will also be a fee if ads are larger than the size listed above. Ads will run in the newsletter which is posted on the LCBA website and ed to our member circulation and billed for 12 issues.
