This social will take the place of our regular weekly luncheon on January 28. Since it takes the place of the luncheon, those on the meal plan are free. Exempt members and significant others are $15. Attendance is limited to club members and their spouses/significant others. Club Exceeded Book Drive Goal President Gardner s original goal for our holiday book drive was 500 books. Thanks to our club members, Interact Clubs and City Year we quickly reached and exceeded that goal. Almost 2,000 books were collected before and during the holiday luncheon and they are still coming in. Aimee Holland Administrative Asst assistant@rotarysa.org , x11 Meeting Information Rotary meets every Wednesday at 12:00 at the Bright Shawl, 819 Augusta (at McCullough) For membership information call , x11 Some books were presented to Mayor Ivy Taylor for her city-wide book club. Books will be presented to 4 th and 5 th graders at four elementary schools. The remaining books were presented to Denise Barkhurst of Big Brothers/Big Sisters to help her reach her SA2020 goal of 2020 books. Thank you to all who brought books. You ve given children a huge gift this year. A huge thanks to our Interact Clubs, Amy Contreras and her children and City Year for contributing the majority of the books. Their friendly competition sparked an explosion of donations. City Year: 520 Amy Contreras and her children contributed over 200 of their own books KIPP UPrep: 405 Central Catholic: 350 Burbank Interact: 58 Club members at the luncheon: 300 Distribution of Books President Gardner and Vice President Brandon were on hand at Gardendale Elementary School as Mayor Ivy Taylor distributed our donated books to 4 th and

4 Family of Rotary News Our own Harold Risener was honored to speak at a YPO/WPO Reception held at the Lewis Energy Hangar on Veteran s Day. Harold was a Naval Commander during WWII and was one of four WWII vets at the ceremony. Here s a picture of Harold enjoying his day. Attend the All-Clubs Luncheon and meet RI President Gary Huang Rotary International President Gary Huang will be in San Antonio in January. The District is holding a luncheon on Monday, January 12 in his honor. Please join our club s Board of Directors and make plans to attend this special luncheon. The luncheon will be held at the Bright Shawl. This does not take the place of our regular luncheon on January 14. Watch for more details.
