1 The Reeder Please visit us on the Internet at NEWS AND VIEWS - by Mary by Jay Ann Hotze Love Greetings One and All. A from Helen Just a reminder, if you have not paid your membership dues of $15.00 it would be appreciated if you would kindly send your check, payable to Gateway Harmonica Club, to Jessie Hirsch, our club treasurer, 47 Orchard Lane, St Louis, MO These funds are used to offset printing costs of the sheet music and various other incidentals. Recently the club purchased new sound equipment. Remember, money collected from performances continues to be donated to various charities. The Club is in the process of publishing a new membership directory and many of you have not updated your mailing address, phone number and address. It would be appreciated if you could update this information no later than May 30 th. information can be submitted to helenallen@att.net. Our group has been actively involved in many wonderful performances. The demand is greatly increasing for us to perform around the metropolitan area. Please do visit our website for the latest Gig information. The annual friends and family picnic is going to be held on June 27 th at Shay Springs Park, 3888 Shady Springs Lane, in St Peters. Frank has reserved a pavilion from noon to 5 PM. Take Hwy 70 West to Cave Springs Exit 225. Continue west on 70 North Outer Service Road until you pass Baue Funeral Home. Turn right after the U-Haul on Shady Springs Road and continue several blocks until you reach the park. Bring along any games, food, or activities to enjoy. As in the past please provide your own sandwich or food, beverage, and a dish to share. Bar-be-que facilities are available. If you have a white elephant gift for an attendance prize please bring it along. Gift bags are an easy out for wrapping. Harmonica Classes are listed in the St Louis Community College catalogue so if you know anyone interested there are several locations available. The classes have been responsible for our membership increasing which has been great! Buddy still provides class instruction on Tuesday at 6 PM at the Rock Church should you know anyone who would like to come join in the fun. We hope to see you soon! Come get acquainted with many of our new members! We do have a number of bookings throughout the summer which are on the Gateway web page. 1

5 Your Club has many talented muscians but the general public does not always have the opportunity to see these muscians perform. Those members and visitors who remain at the meetings to see and hear our members perform at open mic sessions do get to witness some of the great talent within the club and some talented members perform solos during our gigs. Occasionally we get to hear of a great performanc by one of our members and below is an excerpt from the program of the Jacksonville Symphony Society s Talent Among Us competition held Saturday, March 21, Congratulations, Rich, on a great performance. Some Light Humor Some people pay their bills when they are due, some when overdue, and some never do. Bulldozer: Someone who can sleep through a campaign speech. What keeps the moon from falling? It must be the beams. ************ A NOTE FROM YOUR EDITOR My job is made so much easier when members participate in this newsletter by providing articles, photos, bits of humor or items from antiquity. Thanks to Helen Allen for her regular articles, Ernie Roberts for his numerous photos every issue, and any and all members who periodically provide news and notes. Thanks, This tip was provided by Stan. 5 5 Jay
