2 Why mental health and well-being matters Children's mental health is a critical part of a child's social and cognitive development 1 out of 4 high school students felt sad/hopeless almost daily for 2 weeks or more 2 nd leading cause of death for people ages is suicide Support/care can help children deal with difficult emotions. Stigma about mental illness gets in the way of getting treatment

8 Make It OK Make It OK is a community campaign to reduce stigma by starting conversations and increasing understanding about mental illness. Stigma A negative perception that causes someone to devalue or think less of the whole person. Stereotyping or labeling a person because of their condition.
