A small percentage of students (on average much less than 10%) indicate that our school could be more favourable in terms of developig skills for enhanced: relationships particpation emotional safety mental health and improvement in interactions at recess in soccer We will need to focus on student mental health (anxiety) while, at the same time,
2 building resilience for our students Few physical incidents students identify verbal negotiating smaller conflicts as the main concern We will need to continue to develop our Upstander skills based on student reports of peer support Students report high levels of trust with staff and all staff members are consistent in identifying and addressing incidents that may arise. School Bullying Prevention Statement: John Dearness Public School is committed to ensuring safety for all students and promoting respect, acceptance and empathy. STEP TWO: Creating/Revising the Plan 1. Education Awareness Raising and Skill Building: (Programs and Initiatives)
3 Students: We address issues specific to our school through a series of class visits with Leroy Hibbert, V.I.P. and visits from our Community Police Officer and other guests that are identified through the year All classes have posters Are You Being Bullied (define bullying) and Teasing vs Taunting We have an on-line Report Bullying Anonymously button on website Cyber safety presentations for Junior/Intermediate students All divisions engage with Digital Citizenship resources on Board Website We promote student voice through our Student Led Assemblies, Video Announcements and News Team, Student Council, and through other events such as Camp JD and the Gr. 7 Retreat Co-curricular activities at lunch Intramurals, Learning Commons, Bookeepers, Me To We, Band, Choir Staff engage in professional development on Safe and Inclusive Schools (ASIST, Mental Health Champions, Reframing Our Responses) Link to TVDSB Safe Schools on our School Website Parents, Students and Staff are involved in revising our Code of Conduct and Dress Code/All parents receive a copy at the beginning of each year School Council kept informed re survey results, Safe Schools Initiatives and how we respond 2.
