Hillside Happenings Week of March 23, 2016 Greetings from Hillside! As you can see in our pictorial story. Many cool things are happenings on the Hill this week! Yesterday I had the opportunity to host a Moraine Brownie Troop in the Hillside Animal room where they learned about animal care and a bit about the animals that our student docents work with each day.
This week A Bully s Ballad is being performed by the HMS Dram Club under the leaderships of Mr. Brooks with support from Ms. Daar. Written and directed by Mr. Brooks the play is about a young man who mistreats his peers and family in hurtful and misguided ways. Then in a true Charles Dickens manner is visited by three spirits who remind him of how his actions have impacted people in the past, present and future. Tonight s public show will begin in auditorium at 7 P.M.
Lots of student Art is up in the halls in preparation for our annual Steam fair on April 20 th and for our International Night On April 15 th. Kudos to our students and the spectacular work and dedication of Ms. Hopkins, Mrs. Miller, and Mrs. Wisniske!
Mr. Lanzi hosted our annual 6 th and 7 th grade concerts during the past two weeks to a packed house each night. Our 8 th graders have also received all 1s as to district festival. Congrats to Mr. Lanzi, Mr. Rumbell and students.
Ms. Daar, Mrs. Briesacher, and I participated this past Saturday in the NPS Parent Camp at Northville High School. We led two session s called What s up with middle School Boys where we discussed the developmental and social challenges for pre-adolescent boys during the middle school years.
Congrats to our Science Olympiad and Math counts teams as well as our community Academic games participants. Great opportunities for our students to compete in the cognitive domain. Check out Mr. Hall and his 8 th graders as they prepare for the annual mouse trap car competition. Mr. Vander Veer s students are ready to start checking in their mouse trap cars bright and early Wednesday Morning.
April is Autism Awareness Month. Hillside Middle School will be participating in a variety of activities to show their support for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). April 4-8 th Autism Facts will be read daily on the announcements. Students will sell Autism Puzzle Pieces at lunch to fundraise for our Peer to Peer Group. Our Hillside students with Autism will be saying the Pledge of Allegiance. Information about Autism and books found in our own Media Center will be on display for students to look at or read.. Friday, April 8 th Light it Up Blue Day All staff and students are asked to wear blue. o Light it Up Blue is a day created to shed light on Autism Awareness. Thank you for your support! Congrats to Ms. Daar and Mrs. Polydoras for being selected colleagues of the month at Hillside! Hillside Student council raised money last week for the American Diabetes Foundation and Humane Society as part of Spirit Point Activities.
Special thanks to NPS Maintenance Staff Danny Chisolm for helping this week with our lunchtime recess ping pong tables and getting them back in working order!
