1 KIDSPORT CALGARY & AREA 2017 ANNUAL REPORT
2 MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR INVESTMENT - OPPORTUNITY IMPACT GRATITUDE all words that can be used to describe the year that was for KidSport Calgary & Area. We began the year on a positive note by increasing our funding limit to 325 per child. This was made possible due to a strong 2016 and a continued investment into the lives of local kids through our event partners, sponsors, volunteers, board, staff and donors. This increase in funds available to our families allowed us to open many doors for Calgary & Area kids when it comes to sport opportunities that they need and deserve. Cumulatively, these opportunities to get active, develop and learn through sport were shared with 4,987 local kids that required KidSport assistance to ensure they could play the sport of their choice. The impact on these kids and their families is life changing and for that we are forever grateful for everyone who helps us make this possible. These 4,987 kids come from all corners of the communities we service in Calgary & Area. Our team continues to work hard to ensure if there is a young girl or boy in our community that needs our support, that we are there to give them the hand up they deserve. This focus led to us distributing over 1.46 million, locally raised dollars, right back into our local sports community and economy. These dollars were distributed across an astounding 460 local sport clubs and community associations so that KidSport kids had the financial assistance needed so they could chase their sporting dreams. This continued growth in the impact we are having and the increasing need for our services means that our work is not done. As our 22 year history has shown, we will not stop here. We will strive to do everything in our power to ensure under-resourced families in our community have the ability to say YES to their children s sporting dreams. We will accomplish this through a committed team of volunteers, board, staff, events, sponsors and donors. It is this group of strong and passionate individuals, companies and organizations that stand behind our slogan and work hard to ensure we can make it So ALL Kids Can Play! We look forward to working with each and everyone of you to continue investing in our community s greatest resource, our kids! Together we can and will make a positive difference in the lives of those kids that need us most. Sincerely yours, WILSON ACTON BOARD OF DIRECTORS, CHAIRPERSON OUR MISSION 2 WE BELIEVE THAT NO KID SHOULD BE LEFT ON THE SIDELINES AND ALL SHOULD BE GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPERIENCE THE POSITIVE BENEFITS OF ORGANIZED SPORTS. KIDSPORT PROVIDES SUPPORT TO CHILDREN IN ORDER TO REMOVE FINANCIAL BARRIERS THAT PREVENT THEM FROM PLAYING ORGANIZED SPORT. OUR LOCAL KIDSPORT CHAPTER THAT SERVICES CALGARY AND AREA HAS BEEN IN EXISTENCE SINCE IN THAT TIME WE HAVE PROVIDED OVER 41,000 LOCAL KIDS WITH THE GIFT OF SPORT.
3 FINANCIAL OVERVIEW 2017 WAS A YEAR OF CON T INUED GROW TH & INVE S TMEN T in our community through the development of some great new partnerships, donors and events that are committed to ensuring KidSport Calgary & Area has the financial foundation needed to assist over 4,900 local kids, year in and year out! These new events and partnerships, combined with the ongoing commitment and support of our community through a variety of donations and fundraising were able to raise over 2.1 million in 2017! This amazing result has allowed us to raise our funding allocation per qualified child to 375 for the 2018 year. This is something we are working hard to grow and are very proud to be able to do so in support of our families. In 2018 we believe we will continue to see growth in demand for our programs. We are projecting an increase between 10-15%, consistent with the last couple years. Our 2018 fundraising goal is to raise over 2.2 million. These locally raised dollars will support our cause in 2018, but also help us build toward our long-term goal of continuing to raise the funding per child so we can keep up with the growing cost of sport and further help KidSport families in saying YES to their kids sporting dreams! This is a significant target for KidSport Calgary & Area, but we know with your continued support along with the generation of new partnerships, donors and events we will succeed and deliver the positive news and support that KidSport kids and their families need in their lives. WE ARE FORTUNATE TO HAVE A VERY DIVERSE FUNDRAISING POOL. HERE IS A BREAKDOWN OF WHERE THE APPROXIMATELY 2.1 MILLION DOLLARS CAME FROM IN 2017: major events 31% partners 17% individual donors 14% third party events 12% corporate donors 12% foundation/society/charity 8% grants 6% sports teams & organizations 1% 3

As one of the proud partners we are happy to share in the impact Comrie s Sports Equipment Bank had on our community in 2017! Together we are providing the support our families need to ensure sport is accessible for their kids!
