1 2015 Annual Impact Report Your Y... so much more!
2 35,453 Men, women and children participated in Y programs. Our Y nurtured the potential of 31,296 children and youth. 388 Newcomers received English training at the Y. We re more than a organization... we re a family. The vision for our Y is the creation of a thriving, inclusive culture that champions wellbeing in people and communities. This year two historic events illustrated the power of this vision. On September 1st, 2015 we opened the doors to our new Saint John Regional YMCA. This state-of-the-art facility is an important community asset, made possible in large part for our community by our community. Thank you to our Y family for over $9 million in donations your generosity and commitment to what we do is humbling. We are proud to state, that with the addition of the new facility to our other 10 locations across greater the Saint John, the Y now serves more than 35,000 individuals. The communities we serve have also grown. As the government revealed plans to bring 25,000 refugees to Canada our Y and our staff quickly began planning. As an international organization, the Y believes in immigration and supporting families from across the world. Over the past few months our Y has welcomed over 400 Syrian refugees to Saint John, another historic moment, since in a typical year our Y would welcome about 60 refugees. Again the generosity of our community shone through with volunteer welcome teams, generous donors and partner organizations helping our newest members get settled in their new home. Governance review and refresh was a priority for the Board of Directors this year. With the work of our senior staff team, our YMCA achieved Imagine Canada Accreditation in March of 2015, one of the first of 49 YMCAs across the country. This accreditation demonstrates excellence in five areas of operation: board governance, financial accountability & transparency, fundraising, staff management and volunteer involvement. Our Y improved the health of 2,575 people. Health Family Community Leadership New Beginnings Home Our Y welcomed 336 immigrants. Our Y s mission is to inspire individuals, families and communities to be healthy in spirit, mind and body. In 2015, we have been able to strengthen our impact, extend our reach, increase our capacity and build our brand. This is only possible through the commitment and dedication of our Board, staff, volunteers and donors. This year we say goodbye and thank you to three Board members. Dean Mullin, Dora Nicinski and Christina Taylor thank you for your leadership and service to the Board and for your continued support of our Y. Thank you to each of you for continuing to help us build healthy communities, together we will continue to make a difference. That s Our Y Dr. Shelley Rinehart Board Chair President and CEO
