Vince Lombardi did not coach football, he coached men... He did not create better football players, he created better human beings. Nearly 5 decades after his death, his way is still - THE way. Based on the core values: Character Resiliency - LEADERSHIP! Football is but a platform, as are all the pillars of society: Faith Family Education Government Business Media The Arts And nothing significant happens without effective leadership. Leadership is transcendent. It s a constant in a ever-changing world. Since the beginning, and through the end of time, leadership is a necessary element of a successful society. Vince Lombardi can be listed among the great leaders in human history. His life gave us both the blueprint, and the building blocks. He described the importance of his faith, and the values that complete the human experience: Integrity Respect Dedication Discipline Loyalty Honesty Dignity Leadership rests not only upon ability, not only upon capacity; Having the capacity to lead is not enough. 3 Lombardi played offensive guard at Fordham as one of the famed 7 Blocks of Granite. He was never a great football player, he was good - tenacious, determined, and played with the core values he later taught. After his playing days, he coached football and basketball much like he taught high school Chemistry and Latin. His legacy was leadership and education, on the field, in the classroom and throughout life. Leadership, therefore, is what we now honor, with the award named after one of America s most acclaimed leaders. Times change, and the world changes with it Today - Leadership is the attribute in greatest demand, yet shortest supply. And so the Lombardi Award is now presented to the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) or Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) player, regardless of position, based on Performance as well as Leadership, Character and Resiliency. 100% of the net proceeds from the Lombardi Award and Honors activities are contributed to cancer research, treatment, direct services to cancer patients and children who cannot afford treatment to fight the disease that claimed the life of Coach Lombardi.

To make the final list of candidates the player must best exemplify the discipline, virtue and wisdom that defined Vincent Lombardi s exceptional leadership. The Lombardi Foundation, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization and through its activities contribute to Cancer research, cures, and treatment for children who cannot afford Cancer care. The foundation also supports amateur athletics and leadership to youth and adults world-wide. The net proceeds of the Foundation after the expenses of maintaining the Foundation and the annual presentation of the Lombardi Awards and Honors are reserved for charitable causes selected by our Board of Directors.
