Publication No. 02 Q Remembering Boston s Attack Our Mission To help one another, in times of need, by raising funds via distinctive and creative undertakings throughout the year. Our Vision Welcome Arpin Strong Turns One Year Old This month we celebrate the first anniversary of the Arpin Charitable Fund, but not without a burden in our hearts for those who were affected by the Boston bombings. Let s always remember that Arpin Strong was created with the victims in mind and with a commitment to raise funds and sponsor programs to help others in our community and elsewhere. In this edition, we ll bring you up-to-date on our activities and fill you in on some of our future plans. We re humbled by the outpouring of support from the community and our friends on all of our initiatives and the programs we ve accomplished so far. We can t wait to see what will happen next The Arpin Charitable Fund s Board of Directors Helping those in need during natural disasters or when unfortunate circumstances arise by participating in community-based projects and events. 2 Overview of Activities It seems appropriate that this issue of the Arpin Strong newsletter coincides with the 2014 Boston Marathon. The tragic event which occurred d u r i n g t h e B o s t o n Marathon was the reason Arpin Strong was formed. Since that time, the Arpin Charitable Fund has raised over $64,000 and has helped over 20 individuals and organizations. Some of the ways we raise funds are through raffles and we are extremely grateful for the outstanding response we ve had to these raffles. Since the end of 2013, we have held raffles for an Amazon Kindle Fire, Xbox One, American Express gift cards and Apple ipad. For May, we are holding a 50/50 raffle and will split half of all funds raised this month with our winner. A t A r p i n s c o r p o r a t e headquarters in Rhode Island, we also have held various theme days on which staff and management personnel can dress up (or down, as the case may be) for a small donation to a charity selected by the Arpin Charitable Fund s Board of Directors. On March 30, Arpin Strong sponsored its First Annual Road Race at Arpin s headquarters for Arpin s employees and their families. Despite the rainy and cold weather, we were pleased by the attendance at this event. Everyone enjoyed food, music, and fun while supporting the Boys and Girls Club. And lastly, we re happy to announce the addition of two associate members to the Board of Directors, Chris Kunzmann from the Agency Development Department and Mario Lemme from the Information Technology Department. Who We Supported This Year Arpin Strong selects a special charity each month. To date, we ve been able to assist many organizations and causes since Arpin Strong s inception: Family Services of Rhode Island; American Heart Association / Congenital Defects; Travis Family Farm Fire Fund; Boys & Girls Club; Littlefreelibrary.org Children s Book Drive; Boston One Fund; Donations to two members of the Prime Agency Family to assist with medical expenses and funeral expenses; Ann Ross Fire Fund; The Coalition Against Pediatric Pain; United Way Young Leaders Circle. 3 BoldRDash Race, Scarborough Beach, RI, May 3, 2014 Staying Fit While Helping Others On May 3, 2014, the Arpin Strong Team participated in the BoldrDash event at Scarborough Beach, RI, where they jumped, ran, climbed, and crawled through a 5K obstacle course to benefit local charities, including support of police and firefighters. They also challenged their physical and mental limits in this fun and supportive event, as well as having to scrape the sand off their teeth. The team consisted of: (in the order in which they finished) Chris Kunzmann, Katie Antosh, Jilean Vale- Cruz, Ronnie Blanchard, Gabrielle Imbeault, Jennifer Corneau, Matt Somweber, Derek Oden, Brian Asay, Jeanine Lessard, Kevin Amatucci, and Mark Dearborn. 4 No. 02 Q arpinstrong.org The Arpin Charitable Fund recently launched our website, We have posted photos of some of our events, as well as announcing upcoming events. This has given Arpin Strong increased exposure to the public. Be on the lookout for our Facebook page, which we hope to launch soon. The Board of Directors of Arpin Strong sincerely thank the staff and management of Arpin, members of our agency family and drivers who participate in our fundraising and other charitable efforts. We encourage everyone to submit ideas for future consideration to First Annual Golf Outing The Arpin Strong First Annual Golf Outing took place on Saturday, May 10 at the New England Country Club in Bellingham, MA. This fun and competitive event was open to all and the response was great. Agents, businesses, organizations, and Arpin employees participated, and we ve received many donations of goods and services. Our Platinum donors (minimum of $2,000.00) are featured on the Arpin Strong website. Besides a great day of golf, lunch and dinner were provided. In addition, several contests, including a chance to win a car, and raffles were held. The monies raised at this event benefited the Rhode Island Community Food Bank, Save the Bay, the Tomorrow Fund, and the Wounded Warrior Project. 5 Prime Agent Contest We know that many members of our prime agency family support charitable organizations and causes. To assist our agents in their efforts, we are sponsoring the First Annual Arpin Agent Charity Contest. To participate, we ask that agents submit a one-page write up to the Arpin Strong Board of Directors describing the charity or cause that their agency is closest to and why. What we d like to know: When / how the agency became associated with the charity / cause. What the agency has done in the past for the charity / cause. What future plans the agent has for the charity / cause. How you think that Arpin Strong could potentially assist with the charity / cause Explain whether the agent s involvement with the charity / cause is at the management level only or if their staff is engaged with the charity or cause. A short summary of what the agency (and staff, if applicable) has done in terms of involvement and the donations raised each year since their involvement. Why the agent s charity / cause should be selected. Contest Rules: Contest is only open to members of Arpin s prime agency family. Only one (1) entry per agency. Only one (1) page entries will be considered. Entries are to be ed to arpinstrong@arpin.com. Deadline is September 1, The Arpin Strong Board of Directors will review the entries received and select three charities / causes. Winners will be announced during the 2014 Annual Agent Convention (October 12-16, 2014) at the Ritz- Carlton, Marina del Rey, California. Checks will be made out to their selected charity/cause. Below are a few excerpts: My words cannot express how touched I was and how much I appreciate what you have done. Fighting breast cancer has been extremely difficult on me physically, emotionally, and financially. Knowing that I am a part of such a caring and giving family has touched my heart Thank you so much for your donation. We hope you can come visit us after we rebuild. The support and prayers have comforted us during this sad time. This donation will go directly to our programs to assist children with cancer and their families to help defray some of the many expenses our families incur as they face this very difficult time in the lives of their children Because so many individuals are struggling to feed their families, I m very grateful for your loyal support It is kindness such as yours which makes it possible for us to continue to extend a helping hand to brighten the lives of those in our community. It is the generosity and thoughtfulness of caring organizations in our community, such as the Arpin Charitable Fund, that provide many of the supplemental items, activities, and services that would not otherwise be available to our Veterans. We are most grateful. A Look Ahead In addition to our monthly raffles and theme days, the Arpin Charitable Fund has the following planned: 2014 Road Races Scheduled: Details can be found on page seven.
