Research Therapist Veterans Medical Research Foundation 1/2009-5/2012 Participating as a therapist in two research projects examining the use of Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) as treatments for veterans who have been diagnosed with Post- Traumatic Stress Disorder. The therapy in this study is provided both face-to-face and via telemedicine. Supervising Psychologist St. Vincent de Paul Villages (SVdPV), San Diego, CA Supervised psychology interns and provided direct services to residents in the Mental Health Services department of a 900 bed transitional housing facility in San Diego. Duties included: developing a program of training for doctoral level psychology interns, conducting group and individual supervision sessions, delivering in-service trainings on a variety of topics including Motivational Interviewing, group process, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, etc. to staff, consulting with multi-disciplinary team during client staffing meetings and providing individual and group therapy to clients, including designing and co-leading the Co-occurring Disorders (Dual Diagnosis) group. Research Psychologist Naval Health Research Center (NHRC), San Diego, CA As an employee of the Henry M. Jackson Foundation, I participated in two multi-center research projects including a nation-wide study of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques with military veterans of the first gulf war and the effects of three chemical substances, commonly used in combat situations, on the neurocognitive functioning of military service men and women. Specific duties included facilitating CBT groups, administering a complete research neuropsychological test battery to the volunteers in the study, reviewing screening questionnaires, and

2 advising the research team. I also helped to design related studies including collaborating with other researchers, preparing budgets, designing experiments, and writing proposals. Clinical Psychologist Private Practice, San Diego, CA I maintained a private practice in which I provided individual, group, family, and marital therapy to clients. Specializing in the treatment of anxiety disorders, I developed a protocol to strengthen respiratory sinus arrhythmia as a treatment for panic disorder. Modalities used included; Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, biofeedback, EMDR, relaxation techniques, and meditation. I also conducted psychological assessments for the Department of Disability, lawyers, and other clients. I provided oversight, consultation, and training to a private counseling agency, hired and supervised psychological assistants, and created and delivered public service lectures on psychological topics to community groups. Chief Psychologist San Bernardino Community Hospital, San Bernardino, CA I supervised a staff of fourteen therapists including licensed psychologists, social workers, recreational and occupational therapists, and pre-doctoral psychology interns in a community hospital. I created a psychological internship program meeting American Psychological Association guidelines, coordinated with several graduate schools, wrote the internship training manual and conducted training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, documentation procedures, group therapy, token economy, and others that met requirements for staff continuing education credit. I developed a treatment program for short hospital stay based on behavioral principles and designed the group content for the treatment program. I chaired or served on several hospital and unit committees including program planning, quality control, and critical incident debriefing. Psychologist/Qualified Medical Examiner NeuroPsych Associates, Santa Ana, CA I performed psychodiagnostic evaluations involving administering a battery of psychological tests, reviewing records, and preparing specialized reports for worker's compensation court judges. Through this clinic, I also consulted to a surgical weight loss program, interviewed and assessed the psychological readiness of patients preparing to undergo surgical treatment for obesity, conducted follow-up groups and meetings, and consulted with the surgeon. Clinical Psychologist Brea Mental Health Associates, Brea, CA I provided brief cognitive therapy, stress management training, and biofeedback to clients in an outpatient, managed care, psychiatric clinic. I consulted with therapists and psychiatrists for quality assurance and continuity of care. I also worked with a myofacial pain team at Brea Community Hospital, providing Biofeedback for patients with TMJ disorders and consulting with the team dentist. Psychologist/Biofeedback Therapist Head and Neck Pain Medical Clinic, San Diego, CA I worked with an otolaryngologist providing biofeedback therapy and counseling to headache sufferers and delivered public service lectures with the doctor on the nature and treatment of headaches. Psychologist Pathways, San Diego, CA I provided direct clinical services to clients in a substance abuse treatment center, including individual, group, marital, and family therapy for substance abuse and domestic violence and supervised pre- and post-doc interns.

3 Intern/Counselor Veteran's Administration Counseling Center, San Diego, CA I provided assessment and counseling for Vietnam era veterans who were having difficulty in college and in danger of losing educational benefits. I worked closely with community agencies to provide support services as needed. Teaching/Training Experience MINT Trainer San Diego, CA present After having successfully completed the Training New Trainers workshop from the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) in 2006, I have been delivering MI trainings to a variety of staff including case managers, social workers, psychologists, recovery counselors, teachers, correctional staff, MFTs, coaches, medical doctors, and others in a variety of settings including non-profit agencies, state correctional facilities, and workshop training facilities. I have been approved by the American Psychological Association, the California Board of Behavioral Sciences, and the California Foundation for Advancement of Addiction Professionals to offer continuing education credits to psychologists, social workers, MFTs, and alcoholism and drug abuse counselors. Adjunct Professor San Diego Mesa College, San Diego, CA I taught psychology courses in a community college including a biofeedback course that met certification criteria established by the Biofeedback Certification Institute of America and conducted staff development workshops for instructors.
