2 2 MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT This has been a year filled with changes and open communication between our Para Professionals-at a Platform held in February, our Child Nutrition Platform held in March, our Childcare Platform held in April, and our Maintenance & Operations Platform which was held in May. These Platforms were held by our MUP (Members Unity Program) group which was formed after a conference that the group attended in January 2016, bringing back information to our E-board on how to get our Chapter members engaged and informed. By holding these Platforms with these various groups, helped us better understand what was happening within these classified families. It helped better educate us together with upper management in the hopes of getting some concerns addressed. Have ALL concerns been addressed, and resolved? Of course not, but believe me we as an E -board have been working on all concerns since these Platforms have taken place, and will continue to work with upper management to insure these concerns are addressed. Thanks again to everyone that attended these Platforms and shared their concerns with the MUP Committee. Without this committee, some of these concerns might never have been made aware or even addressed. I am passing the baton onto the next President for 2017, Debbie Hanna, who will be sworn in on January 11th along with the other Executive Board members, to accept the official position with CSEA. I wish her and the other Executive Board members the best of luck in 2017, and I will continue to be a part of CSEA as Past President. Remember our monthly Chapter meetings are held the 3rd Thursday of the month at 5:15 pm at the District Office, Conference Room F. Let s keep CSEA/Chapter 620 an open line to communication for everyone to have a place to share concerns, answer questions, and keep a positive force. 4 4 Chapter President 2017 Debbie Hanna Planning Technician District Office Planning & Facilities Department I ve been with CVUSD for 17 years serving in the capacity of the Planning Technician within the Planning and Facilities Department, located at the District Offices. I started my position as a temporary employee until my predecessor formally resigned. Following the reassessment of the position, I was able to apply for, and was officially hired into the position, which I truly embrace. I m humbled to have been nominated for Chapter President! Together with the fellow Executive Board Members we will rise to the challenge of supporting you, our members. It is our goal to ensure that your voice is heard, and when needed positive changes can be made. Accomplishments are made as a team, with knowledge, respect, and patience. It will be a goal to reach out and challenge you, our members, to come to our chapter meeting held once a month, where we can work together to form a strong chapter! I will be sworn in, along with the others on the Executive Board, on January 11th and will then officially be your Chapter President. This conference is held each year, and is available for ALL classified employees, space is limited. Keep your eye open for next year s registration time, which usually is in September. 5 5 QUESTIONS ASKED BY MEMBERS AND ANSWERED BY THE PRESIDENT #1 When will we begin negotiations for school year? Answer: We began October 21, 2016, and met again on December 12, Nothing has been agreed upon, and we will keep you posted once we have something to report. #2 How do I access work ? Answer: From Any browser Example: Chrome, Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox Go to: owa.conejousd.org Type in your Username and password If you are unsure of your login, contact your Site Tech or Technology Services Department. #3 If I need to go out on Catastrophic Leave and am COMPLETELY out of sick and/or vacation days what steps should be followed? Answer: Talk to your immediate Supervisor advising them of your situation. The next step would be to find the Sick Leave Donation form online. Fill it out and submit it to Mark McLaughlin along with any pertinent documents for approval. Once approved by Mark McLaughlin, the President of CSEA, would then need to sign off on this form. The next step is the President of CSEA Chapter 620 would then go to the Secretary of the Chapter and an would be sent to Classified Employees asking for donations of Sick Time hours/days. #4 If I am NEW to CVUSD, who should I contact to see if I am a member of the local Chapter 620? Answer: Contact our Treasurer, or 2nd VP and they can check for you.. If you are not a member, we will have you fill out a membership application. You can also ask your Site Rep.to help you determine whether or not you are a member of the Local Chapter by looking at your paystub deductions. Ask your Office Manager who, at your site, is your Site Rep. #5 As a Classified cmployee, how do I know which days are holidays, and which days are non-work days? Answer: Every Classified Employee has a job class, which is connected to a Work Year calendar. You should be able to find your Work Year calendar on the CVUSD Website. Check with the Office Manager/Secretary or Admin. Assist. at your worksite if you are unable to locate your calendar. The Human Resources office at the District Office can also help you find the correct work year calendar for your job classification. #6 What Committees do we have for Classified Employees to get involved? Answer: DAC Committee, Health Benefits Committee, Professional Growth Committee, Reclassification Committee, Safety Committee, Scholarship Committee, and Wellness Committee.

6 6 SHARE YOUR IDEAS WITH US, AND YOUR SITE WILL BE ENTERED INTO A DRAWING We are promoting Wellness and Healthy Living. Maybe each work site can encourage a fellow employee to take the lead at your site and form a daily walking club, monthly hiking events, bring in healthy snacks to share, encourage each other to drink more water, and take your entitled breaks throughout the work day.
