2 Building a sustainable future On any given night in Australia 1 in 200 people are homeless. Many of these people are living in inadequate and unsafe conditions due to a variety of complex and differing issues. Recent changes to welfare benefits and a changing funding landscape has forced specialist homelessness services and mainstream providers to reassess the future. This conference will focus on initiatives that provide practical and relevant solutions. Your involvement over these two days will provide a platform to assess the challenges, building towards a plausible future where homelessness is nonexistent. However, that is often just the beginning. To ensure that people who are vulnerable can access the complex systems of care so as to have the services that match their personal needs and be appropriately supported in permanent housing can be both an art and a science. This interactive workshop will address the evidence, aiming to highlight and identify relevant support strategies in providing sustainable, permanent housing solutions. Why attend this workshop? Across the Province of Alberta cities are beginning to see significant reductions in homelessness and one city, Medicine Hat, is on the verge of becoming the first city in North America to end homelessness. This interactive workshop will address how clear and specific plans, along with purposeful policy advocacy can help drive a sustainable future to end homelessness by examining the effectiveness of lessons learnt in Canada. Felicity has been the CEO of the Mercy Foundation since 2008 and has previously worked in senior management roles in homelessness, mental health and health research. Karyn is the coordinator of Micah Projects, a regional not for profit in Brisbane. Micah Projects is a key agency within the specialist homelessness services system of Brisbane providing a range of services to prevent, manage and end homelessness with individuals and families. Tim Richter, President & Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness Tim Richter is the President and CEO of the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness (CAEH) and Vice Chair of the CAEH Board of s. Prior to joining the CAEH, Tim was President and CEO of the Calgary Homeless Foundation (CHF), charged with leading the implementation of Calgary s 10 Year Plan to End Homelessness the first plan of its kind in Canada.
