3 Pinehurst and Holiday Springs Sidewalks and update on Viera Blvd intersection road works SPEAKING OF PARTIES SOS BIG INDEPENDENCE DAY PARTY JULY 4 th at the SOS Community Center As has been the Springs of Suntree s tradition, Saturday July 4 th s day will start with the kids Independence Day Parade at 11am. The parade starts at Ida Rd/Hill Ave intersection in the Palm Springs subdivision down Holiday Springs road to the Pinehurst road intersections, then circling back to the SOS Community Center. Come walk or ride with your kids decked out in your most patriotic outfit or cheer from the road sides. After the parade join in for the Big Independence Day Cookout and Potluck Luncheon. Space Coast Property Management will be providing the Hamburgers and Hot Dogs with condiments, grilled up by your very own Board of Directors. Bring a dish to pass and enjoy the pool, playground and amenities of your community center and share in the celebration of our wonderful Country. Brevard County has started working on replacing the sidewalks along Pinehurst road and Holiday Springs Road. They are removing the old asphalt sidewalks and will be installing new concrete from Viera Blvd to the entrance of Palm Springs along the front of the Clubhouse and from Holiday Springs and Pinehurst intersection to meet up with the existing concrete sidewalk. These will not be trail paths like in Viera or Suntree which are designed for Golf Carts, so golf cart should still be utilizing the designated county approved road ways. SHOE DRIVE Gently Worn Shoe Collection What do we need?: Gently worn shoes, flip flops and Sandals (in bags). Dates?: Mon., July 6 to Wed., July 15 Why are we collecting shoes?: St. John the Evangelist s Youth Ministry program will be bringing these donations to the Steubenville 2015 conference where conference participants will sort and package the shoes that will be sent to help start microenterprises in developing nations. You can drop off your gently worn shoes during office hours at the SOS Clubhouse. 3

4 Brevard County Surplus Land Sale update: A Letter from the Chair of the SOS Area Development Committee Dear Springs of Suntree residents, We have one week to preparee for the County Commissioners' meeting on July 7 at 9:00 a.m. when they will vote on the two bids on the 114 acres of surplus land. Please come to show solidarity even if you don't plan to speak publicly. The agenda is posted for the meeting: /Default.aspx Each person can speak for 5 minutes. You need to fill out a card with your name and the agenda item: Unfinished business V. B. You can sign up any time before the end of discussion on this item. For those of you who can't spend all morning at a meeting, in May, the first 30 minutes of Public Comment began around 9:40. If you arrive by 10:00, you will likely be able to speak. You don't have to speak for 5 minutes. You can state your name and address and two sentences about why you don't want the property to be developed. The more people who speak, the better! The County Commissioner agenda packet for the July 7 th meeting which will include the Surplus Land is available at the office to be ed or printed out for any interested resident or the Springs. On June 24 th Chris Gardner from Condev met with concerned and available residents of the Springs of Suntree to discuss community concerns and Condev s interest in the surplus land. Condev is one of two companies that bid on the county land. The other company MLC Melbourne, LLC was also invited to meet with the residents but did not reply. Mr. Gardner stated that at this time there has been very little thought to exactly how a development would look on that land but in general Condev was not thinking of 200 homes but somewhere between125 to 180. He also estimated thatt about 40 acres would need to be lakes/retention areas. Residents posed many questions and concerns that Mr. Gardner stated would need to be addressed immediately as part of the planning. If Condev bid is accepted there is a 90 day period for Condev to conduct research and determine a plan for development. Condev can change its mind and withdraw its bid/purchase agreement any time prior to the 90 day mark, should any of the information prove the project was not a viable one for the developer or surrounding communities. The meeting offered an opportunity for both SOS residents and Condev representative to learn about the process and issues that go with the sale of this land. I have been riding through the community with our C as well as independently at night. It has come to my attention that people are not following our rules. Parking on the grass is not allowed ever and no commercial vehicles, pickup, vans and SUVs with signs on them must be covered if parked in driveway or in our overflow parking lot. The board has made it possible to have home owners use this lot when they don t have enough space at home or they have guests. Boats or recreational vehicles are only allowed for one 24 hours period within a 7 day period. Operating a business out of your garage or home is not permitted ever, especially if it is one that requires clients or large amount of deliveries to come into the community. A home office is one thing but running full blown business from your home is a violation of the governing documents as well as county codes. We have been getting complaints that this has been happening and code enforcement has now been asked to assist in addressing the concerns as they become apparent. Other issues and violations noted continue to be Trash Can storage, lawn and specifically planting bed weeds and discoloration on homes, driveways and walk ways. We board members are not immune to violations and I have personally been written up for issues so I know some things are easy to forget or miss taking care of.
